It's a pretty gratifying experience writing for Lit and seeing hundreds of people enjoy your work,

I mean, I'm new so it's still very novel for me, but it died make me appreciate Literotica all the more.

Anyone else on board with that?

Most of us, I'm sure. Some of us put up with quite a lot to post stories here.

Agreed, I've been a member for a few years but only became active at the end of last year. I've only posted a couple of stories so far (deleted one) but it is very strangely enjoyable writing for lit. Only problem is that I haven't written any of my normal fiction since I started writing erotic stories.

I'm not too concerned though it's allowing me to practice and learn so I'm game for the cesspool my mind has become since becoming active here. :p

Yep. I like it when people say they really liked something you wrote.

Can you imagine - a hall of a coupla hundred people all going 'yay, we liked that!'

It's great.

The fact that they are all spread out around the world doesn't mean it still isn't impressive. I think it's pretty impressive.

For me personally I was getting to a point at which I didn't think I was able to honestly write 'in the contemporary world setting' and yet steer too far away from a very candid treatment of sex inside the basic stories. It didn't make sense to me. The modern world calls for this type of writing because it is reflective of the people and the social setting. Really. I think so anyway...

I think what's also gratifying is the fact that there are hundreds of readers who fully engage with this writing even while the pop publishing industry is in total denial and resorting to faking it with parody erotica.

In some ways I guess that denial is a good thing. It creates the need for this subculture where we can explore our creativity somewhat without judgment.

I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking that.

I fail to GET all the dread of judgment so many experience. This place is larded with tender, thin-skins. LIT is the WALMART of talent.

And you're our pet troll, so what?

Lit is a great place to learn to write, to improve the skills. Not to mention a million people visiting a day.

Yeah denial, a good thing. In this case I totally agree.

In fact I'm all for making it as absolutely 'bad' as possible for the mainstream publishing industry to come chasing around these parts for writers and for ideas.

I don't have a problem with being in the Walmart of Talent, if JBJ wants to look at it this way - my whole life I have considered easy, cheap, free, or exchange-based access to books (including on eReaders and the internet) of any kind at all the life, the heart, the soul, the fire, the true blood of being a human circa this century and the last.

Who will tell a kid or an adolescent the REAL truth, where will you get naked unadorned unfiltered and unspun and alive creative ideas from dispassionate sources - except from a dime novel a hundred years ago or from here now?

You pay bigger money and all you get is funded lies. Adults are idiots unless they still can read a dime novel and still 'get it.' What changes when you stop being fifteen or sixteen and 'grow up' and 'mature?' You get stupider.

I was fortunate to grow up in a world where mediocrity wasn't esteemed and rewarded. When I failed the standards I got my ass thumped, I wasn't picked for the team, I was ridiculed, or made to do the work over till good enough. Today its enough to be queer or black or have a cunt or an alcohol problem (PTSD). Because folks the world over love their crutches (excuses to avoid judgment). WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM SOMEONE WITH A WOOD LEG!

ObTopic: Posting stories here IS gratifying when they elicit responses. It's gratifying to know I've touched someone enough that they MUST comment, whether with praise or vitriol. The worst punishment on LIT is silence.

I think SR was referring to all the vitriol and trolling.

I sidestep vitriol likes it's not even there... Usually. It's like literary kung fu with an industrial biological filter twist, but thanks for the clarification. That was appreciated.

Nicely put. I've yet to experience a silent response here, but I confess that it would bother me more than negativity. I almost like an occasional negative response, regardless of how crooked the motives might be. I try to regard it as an opportunity to learn something. In some cases those redeeming factors don't exist. That's when slippery silence becomes my preferred response.

In other words, some negative crap just isn't worth the response.

Haha, the snide version of that: I'm not going to waste my time boosting some fools ego.

'Vitriol' should be a branded product registered name (word). It sounds better as a word than its meaning should let it.

Vitriol. Buy Vitriol. Makes yer hair grow. Cleans yer bath and yer sink.

Vit-ri-ol. (Comes in new easy-to-use squeeze-paks)

Hahah. It does.

Except it sounds to me more like it would remove hair than make it grow.

Sounds like it should be a verbal abuse app. I remember various dialect programs from earlier days of DOS and the Web that interjected stereotypical phrases into text, giving hacker / black / honky / valspeak renderings of texts. VITRIOL (TM) replaces 'you' with "you fucking asshole", etc. Simple stuff. It also contains numerous message templates; you merely insert details for personalized communications. It also has cultural era settings, so you can dish out insults in any style. "Thou loathesome anus-sucking toad," etc. Of course, the Windoze, Linux, Android and iOS versions all defame each other.
