WRITING CHALLENGE REVIEW THREAD ~ DECEMBER 2014

Just a few little rules for this thread:-

• This thread is for comments and reviews only. Submissions go here!

• Please keep your comments focused on the pieces posted for the challenge running from 1st – 24th December 2014 only, this is not really intended to be a thread for conversation/flirting/mayhem and so on (Sorry to be a bore!). Writers should be able to find reviews/comments for their pieces without having to trawl through pages of banter (no matter how amusing/sexy it might be!) :)

Readers/Reviewers:- Please keep your comments and reviews polite and, wherever possible, positive. If you have constructive criticism or advice for writers please do give it but be polite about it! You don’t have to like everything you read but if you really don’t have anything nice to say about something then I would suggest you refrain from posting. And if all you want to say is you liked a piece and no more…that’s great too! We all know how writers like to be appreciated! ;)

Authors:- Please take constructive criticism as it is intended, as an attempt at improving possible flaws/problems/areas of confusion in your piece. They are not (hopefully!) personal attacks on you or your work.

• This is supposed to be a fun way to get to know new writers and potential partners, to exercise our writing brains, it’s not a competition, please keep that in mind!

• One more thing…suggestions for future prompts are very welcome and should be PM’d to me – Britwitch – as a link ideally. :)

Previous challenges and reviews can be found here.

Happy reading!

Just want to say how ridiculously excited I am about this and so thankful people wanted to take part. :rose:

So, without further ado...

Day Two - havinfun50

Awww, so romantic and a great use of the prompt.
I thought this was lovely and sweet and a great snapshot of their relationship.

Day One-- Brit-- I loved the use of snow as a metaphor. the possibilities made me smile. a great start for the thread.

Day Two-havingfun50 so romantic and lovely, i want to know them more and know their story. great job

Britwitch: After having read some of your other months' submissions, I was fearful as to what was going to happen. Thankfully I got over this fear and kept reading. Lovely piece... :)

HF: Any ideas where I can order some of that? :D Just kidding... It was very sweet.

Thanks you two for taking it so easy on us newbies and not setting the bar too high. :p

First - Brit, I love reading everything you write, but I really liked the juxtaposition of the the sudden fear while walking home with their bond and coming child. You captured the eerie silence and stillness of a heavy snow perfectly. It made for a perfect tension point.

Thank you Brit, Wideeyedone and Angel. I enjoyed writing it, I'm really glad you enjoyed reading it.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the month!

Thank's Brit for putting this together, it's a great idea! :nana:

Uh...

bites tongue and shakes her head

'Tisn't the season. I'll just do what I came in to do, which was to comment.

December 1st ~ Britwitch

Brit, I'm often left searching for the words to properly tell you what your pieces do to me. Almost always (unless she decides to shake you up), a Brit piece is going to leave you warm and smiling and hopeful. You leave me feeling that you must live a life absolutely surrounded by the kind of love that's in fairy tales...idyllic - to be able to write it so beautifully. I'm happy believing that about you.

December 2nd ~ havinfun50

HF, I liked this one - it didn't start where I expected it to, and it didn't finish there, either - and I like surprises. I think you've captured elements of the D/s relationship and also the tenderness and romance and affection of any devoted couple. I liked its subtlety, and the way it left me wanting more.

I think you've both set a very fine example and have got this month's brilliant challenge off to a wonderful start! I don't envy the person who has to follow - oh...heh, right.

I'll have something up tomorrow.

But I will not change my Halloween AV and sig, because suck it, Scuttles!

Two wonderful stories to enjoy, both featuring snow, but in completely different ways.

On day 1 the snow is the main actor, setting the scene for the protagonists' fright, anger, relief and happiness.

On day 2 the snow is just a part of the stage for a loving couple.

Very well done, my compliments to you both.

Thank you, everyone  for both the very generous words on my piece and about this challenge as a whole. It wouldn't work without all of you so big giant huge thanks to each and every one of you writing, reading and commenting.

3rd December ~ saysalice

Oh Alice, you kill me you do. Whatever you might think of what you wrote, I loved it and I'm sure I'm not alone.
Those last few lines really resonated with me and left me feeling ever so hopeful. And I'll be sure to box that feeling up and send it to you as soon as I can! :rose:
You can't write badly. You just can't. It's one of those laws of nature that you can't mess with.
It was real and a little raw and amazing for all of it. Thankyou, lovely, for sharing it with us

Alice-- very profound and heartfelt. I could feel the tension between the narrator wanting to please her mother and honor her own beliefs.

ScuttleButtin-- the word that comes to mind is precious. and i don't mean that in a sugary way. i mean it was precious in the sense, that it was a tender rare look into the hearts of a two characters that we got to know so intimately in so few words. great job.

4th December ~ Scuttle Buttin'

Oh my, that was so beautifully written.
It was tragic and sweet and made me hope mine is a love like theirs.
It also made me cry, rather a lot, but I kinda suspected it would.
Superb.

Wasn't it just awe-inspiring, Brit?! Heartbreaking yes ... but so wonderful all the same. Who wouldn't want a love like that for their own? I may have teared up a time or two.

Well done Scuttles!:)

5th December ~ wideeyedone

This was lovely! We don't get many poems in the challenges so it's even more of a treat to find one, expecially one as good as yours.
Great imagery and it had a lovely serene feel to it too.

6th December ~ fr33ks33k

You, sir, never fail to impress. Like never ever!
These two were so delicious to read. I think if I had to pick a favourite, which would be near impossible, I particularly liked the first one. It was smooth and graceful but then it captured the frantic energy of snow too.
Awesome.

7th December ~ dutchrain

Oh I loved this! I loved it, loved it, loved it!
Mystery and romance and a little history too...I need to stalk your writing more I think ;)
This was such a sweet little story and has left me wanting to read more about her Grandmother's story. Great job!

Thanks for a brilliant first week of the challenge everybody! :rose:
My turn again tomorrow so I guess I better get writing...

fr33ks33k- I loved the personification of the snowflakes. so much in such a short piece.

dutchrain- I call for the first Ingrid's story with lots of lurid detail. :) I greatly enjoyed this story. So humorous, and tender. I felt immersed in the story.

Brit- loved the twists. and I loved that we saw so much about Jane in such a short time. I felt like I knew Jane really well.

That took me a bit longer than I expected. :(

Not sure it makes any sense, though.

I'll do better next time I promise.

9th December ~ TinyDuchess

I had no clear idea where you were taking this but when you got to the conclusion it fitted absolutely perfectly.
For me, you captured the myriad of emotions she would have been going through at the time and helped her, and us, see the most important parts of their relationship by the end.
Loved it! :rose:

I am loving the challenge this month, it's wonderful to get to read such great pieces, and every day too! It's the best kind of Christmas present.

Thanks, Brit!

We can just pretend there's mistletoe...

Aww, thanks, lovely!

I'm loving it too! It's going so well and everything written so far has been superb!

Roll on tomorrow's piece, says I!

And I should also say...

10th December ~ havinfun50

This was lovely. Such a sweet story and with real warmth to his recollections.
Perfection.

Thank you Brit.

dutchrain, I especially loved your entry.

I have to echo everyone else. All the pieces have been great, and every day is a new surprise.

tiny dutchess- very good character development.

havinfun- I enjoyed the playfulness and history between the characters.

11th December ~ wideeyedone

Such a lovely little story. It had snatches of everything in there, longing and heartache, joy and excitement. Hope.
Great stuff, as always!

12th December ~ DeliciousMaiden

I was curious how people might use this prompt and I loved what you did with it!
I loved how you showed some of the core strengths to a great relationship too. :D

I am so loving this challenge. I'll risk echoing what everyone else has already said, it really is like getting a present everyday.
