WRITING CHALLENGE REVIEW THREAD ~ APRIL 2012

Just a few little rules for this thread:-

• This thread is for comments and reviews only. Submissions go here!

• Please keep your comments focused on the pieces posted for the challenge running from 21st April – 19th May 2012 only, this is not really intended to be a thread for conversation/flirting/mayhem and so on (Sorry to be a bore!). Writers should be able to find reviews/comments for their pieces without having to trawl through pages of banter (no matter how amusing/sexy it might be!) :)

Readers/Reviewers:- Please keep your comments and reviews polite and, wherever possible, positive. If you have constructive criticism or advice for writers please do give it but be polite about it! You don’t have to like everything you read but if you really don’t have anything nice to say about something then I would suggest you refrain from posting. And if all you want to say is you liked a piece and no more…that’s great too! We all know how writers like to be appreciated! ;)

Authors:- Please take constructive criticism as it is intended, as an attempt at improving possible flaws/problems/areas of confusion in your piece. They are not (hopefully!) personal attacks on you or your work.

• This is supposed to be a fun way to get to know new writers and potential partners, to exercise our writing brains, it’s not a competition, please keep that in mind!

• One more thing…suggestions for future prompts are very welcome and should be PM’d to me – Britwitch – as a link ideally. :)

Previous challenges and reviews can be found here.

Happy reading!

The Wild Winter ~ fr33ks33k

Loved this little piece, the snatches of conversation felt very real and I could almost feel the coldness of the water. I particularly enjoyed the ending as I feared it was going to go down a more morbid path!

Flight ~ marauder13

Very dramatic this one. There was a sense of impending doom, that got closer and closer as the piece went on. I think marauder has an amazing skill with his wording and his opening sentences are gorgeously phrased.
I think what I liked best was the section written from the wolves' point of view, commenting on "This prey had teeth too. Strange teeth that bit far from the mouth."

Thank you fr33k and M13 for taking part :rose: :rose:

This is the reason I started doing these challenges, I love how one image can inspire such different stories :D
So, so glad people still want to join in and am hoping we'll have some more submissions and reviews before this challenge comes to an end

This was a very sweet picture of a loving couple, sharing something which they will remember when they are old. Very nice.

Flight ~ marauder13

I admired the drama of this one. It did not really matter why he was where he was, or what the back story was. It was a perfect slice of human survival drama; man against the elements. We will all die, even though we struggle. It was a really good effort that I will remember for a long time.

The Northern Lights ~ LuridTales

A very nicely written little scene. Apart from a couple of a little typos that jarred my reading of it the first time through I really really enjoyed it. I felt like this was a scene from a much larger story about Jack and Rebecca.
Some of the phrases in this were gorgeous! ~ "In Central Park, it might be beautiful, but you could still hear the traffic, and knew that it was all an illusion."

Thanks for taking part! :rose:

Untitled ~ Kozuka

I so thought this was going to be a sad one! Was very pleasantly surprised it took a different turn in the middle.

Another very well written piece, the opening is exceedingly dramatic and the scene with the husband carefully written.

I really liked this one, thanks for joining in! :rose:
