My friend: Age gap relationships are bad! What is this story you shared with me about?

Me: A 36 year old man who has sex with an 18 year old woman; they're coworkers at the same shitty job. You know what, you don't need to read it.

My friend: No I'm gonna read it.

Me: Ok ...

<Later>

My friend: That was hot. They're such a cute couple!

Me: I-- what? They-- they aren't a couple? He's older than her? I thought you said that was bad?

My friend: They're so cute together! I can't wait to see them grow!

+++++

In retrospect, it makes sense that it's ok (it's fiction, they care about each other's needs, it's consensual, they treat each other as a partner and are emotionally mature, it's fiction), but still. It was a solid feeling of "wait, I thought you said that was a bad thing?"

Obviously I'm writing a follow-up (slowly), but it was an odd conversation.

Good story!
Thanks! I'm partway through the next story (I refuse to call it chapter two, because it's not really the second chapter, it's a follow-up with the same characters), and I'm trying to figure out their ... situation. I feel like Rebb would love to date Silus and he'd love to date her, but they're still new, and still feeling things out.

Honestly, I'd probably write them closer in age than this if I was writing this story again, but it made sense to write them those ages at the time.

Or maybe not! I honestly have no idea how "hoppin" the age gap relationship erotica romance scene is. I am not hip.

It's hoppin' enough to have its own category. I think the majority of stories in "Mature" are age-gap stories.

Is THAT what the "Mature" stories are? I thought it was about grandparent age folks who fuck, which isn't my jam but I'm also not one to yuck someone else's yum. Maybe I just figured "late teen early twenty something fucking a thirty something" wasn't a "mature" topic. I might have to check that out!

There's a spread of stories in the category, and I have to admit that I'm not real successful there. Authors who are tell me that the crowd rewards romantic age-gap stories. There are also stories in which both parties are mature, and age-gap stories that are more prurient than romantic.

So check it out. If nothing else, it's a more engaged group of readers than you get in Erotic Coupling.

The first one wasn't really what I'd call "romantic", more "a good fuck", but it might bend that way here. I've give it a gander

The description for the category is: "May/December lust and love affairs." So, yes, the primary focus of the category is age-gap stories, although people publish stories where both characters are "mature" as well.

I have three stories there. The first (Modern Biology) was fairly popular. It had an age-gap relationship and a happily-ever-after ending, along with some humor. I was very disappointed by the second (Pixie by the Fireside) and a long-time reader in the category told me the relatively low rating was because the ending was anti-romantic (it was a little vengeful). The third (Naked House) was also an age-gap story and also disappointed. I have several guesses as to why, but guesses are all I got.

Mature is my go-to category, for May November stories and November November stories.

The readers are all adults (unlike many other categories where they carry on like hall monitors in a high school), they're responsive (both scores wise and comments), and they don't have a pre-conceived notion of what's "allowed" - which in other categories is short hand for, "Don't write my squicks."

Age gap stories always run pretty well.

Making it a series with the same characters in different situations is the way to go. Just keep things consistent.

I am writing a story where the male is 29 years older than the female, but it is a romantic adventure with only teasing hints of erotic content. So far, beta readers are commenting favorably.

After reading this, I wonder if I should have posted my recentConvention event story (The Aureur) in Mature instead of E&V. MC, whose thing was to listen to sex, disliked being lumped with voyeurs, which always made putting the story there a bit ironic. The plot line is an encounter between MC and a young woman. MC is about 20 years older than she is. I had only thought of Mature as older woman, maybe because I always thought of older man with young woman as kind of creepy. Yeah I know, I just wrote one and I didn't think of it as creepy there. But it's not quite a happily ever after ending to it. Could that have played there? I don't want to say too much about the ending if anyone who hasn't read still wants to (and most people have not read it), but it is definitely not a "and they rode off into the sunset together" ending, but it is not really a completely sad and angry ending either.

I only have one story in the category, and it's more about the younger person in an age-gap setup fulfilling one of her fantasies, over the initial objections of the older participant. She succeeds in that, or the story would be entirely different. The older participant's objections are based on his work environment, not his interest in the young lady. It was written specifically per a request from my significant other, and our age gap is greater than that of the two in the story, so....

May-December usually means younger woman, older man. May is the younger woman, December the older man.
Ah, thank you.

Given my interests are purely in wlw, I guess it's unsurprising I've not come across that before.

A strong underlying theme I have in a serial is a middle-aged gentleman (40s) whose outlooks on life, romance, and sex tends to attract young women (20s) fresh out of college. So I guess you could call these spring-late summer relationships. I was originally publishing these stories in Mature, but moved to Group Sex as things became polyamorous.

The keys are nurturing wisdom, playful sense of humor, and experience - especially in knowing how to please a girl in that way. You know, versus the ladies' age-peer "boys" who are all about sticking it in, getting off, and thank-you-see-ya'-later.

I don't go too young. Wet-behind-the-ears 18-20 year olds usually don't have any idea of what they want beyond their hormones calling the shots, and drive any thoughtful mature guy to distraction. Y'all are welcome to that as a story idea, 'cause if I use it, it's going to be the MMC pushing the young lady away, "Let's talk in five years," or something like that.

My two submissions in the Mature category have been very well received. Both have been older men with younger women. I already have the premise for my next story in that category. I'm going to switch it up and have the woman be older this time.

In this one the guy is 36 and the gal is 18, which isn't a 30 year age gap but still pretty big, experience-wise. Now I'm wondering if I should have submitted the first story into the category. It's got a score of 4.66 with 50 votes, so it's clearly done well enough for itself, but I do like putting things into the category they properly fit into.

Now I'm for SURE gonna have to check out "Mature"

Looking into the Mature category now, and it is ABSOLUTELY the category for this series of stories.

FUCK.

Now I know, at least.
