Writing ambience?

Do you have a certain way you set things up when you intend on writing erotica?

I myself have a selection of songs that I listen to depending on what kind of theme I'm going for in my story. And I always have my glass of green tea and some kind of chocolate substance within reach.

How about you?

I'm fortunate in that my computer is in a tiny extra bedroom that we didn't need for anything else. I'm unlucky in that I have a small child who sees absolutely nothing wrong with interrupting me every two or three minutes to tell me such earthshaking news as he farted.

Coffee or coke close at hand and cigarettes is all I really need, besides alone time.

OMG, my partner (who also writes erotica) complains about the exact same thing! I guess I'm very lucky to be home when he's away at school for 6 hours.

Whatever I'm writing all I need is quiet and solitude (music is distracting, at least the music I like). Ambience? That's for the bedroom and restaurants. Do horror fiction writers only work on 'dark and stormy nights'? :)

Hey, I didn't say that the ambience had to be harmonious with your writing. Maybe Stephen King liked to listen to happy carnival music, and that's how he eventually came up with the book "It". :p

Coffee, Cigarettes and a lot of Tullimore Dew helps loads. You can tell by reading my stories.

Music. MUSIC. And my cigarettes, the phone nearby to call my best friend and run lines by her if she's available to talk, iced tea or hot tea or water (depending on the day), and comfortable clothes on. Otherwise I spend the whole time trying to get comfy and lose track of my thoughts. Oh, and I open the AH forum so I can bitch and moan about my characters and other stuff.

I enjoy writing with blues music playing, but, I lost the sound on my pc and God only knows what "The Boss" did to our cd player, but I found this cheap little clock my supervisor got me for Xmas a few years ago that plays ocean sounds and I find it rather sootheing...and green tea :)

I like to write during my history classes, which is kinda bad because I'm supposed to be paying attention, but then again I'd probably fall asleep if I didn't distract myself, so it's a double edged sword. If I'm at home I'll probably have something on in the background, like the TV or music. I don't really write at home anymore though. Too manhy distractions. Like tonight I'm sitting down and finishing Xenosaga Episode III after forever. I'm determined to do it. If not tonight then by the end of the week for sure. Anyways, back to the topic, I find it best to write when I'm not at home. I just get too distracted by other stuff I can do.

I actually have an apple-cinnamon air freshener that gets me in a writing mood for some reason. I don't open it unless I'm writing, or at least trying to write.

I started writing at work out of boredom....

I still do most of my writng at work where I'm a captive for twelve hours a day, seven days a week, for anywhere from 14 to 45 days at a time.....

There are to many distactions at home, although I had better lern how to deal with them as retirement is looming over the horizon..... well, not looming but it's there if I live long enough...

Mostly all I need is alone time, sometimes I have my favorites music list playing in the background.... and yes music does effect my writing, the type sand mood of the music more than the words.... add coffee and cigerettes and I'm good to go....

Caffine and nicotine.....ZOOOOOOOM.....

eta" Oh and it helps writing the sex scenes to have a neky screensaver running on the other computer..... :D

No daylight - only candles, my mood lamp, or the light from my aquarium. Running water from an indoor fountain is always good, or my Thunderstorm in the Wilderness cd.

In an idea world this would be accompanied by some marijuana, plenty of food and passion fruit juice.

Absolute silence. Enough light to see the keyboard, but not too much.

Wow, that's very romantic. You know how to lay the atmosphere on thick.

Groovy, me too. The lighting, the sounds, even the smells all matter to me. I love vanillia incense.

Isn't vanilla supposed to be an aphrodisiac? I forgot to mention my scented candles. I rotate between Blue Hyacinth, Bluebell Wood and Freshly Cut Grass. :cathappy:

They have a candle that smells like freshly cut grass?! OMG, my partner would LOVE that!
