I'm an editor and I see so may hopeful writers going to the editor's forum seeking writing assistance. I can see why - because most of the AH threads are time-stealers - those who post last win, etc.

I'm an editor and a good writer who has helped many authors.

Or go back to posting your crazy shit.

The choice is yours - explore your writing tendencies or get lost posting insignificant shit.

I choose both.

Why was I under the impression I was doing that already. All this time wasted and frittered away, when I could have been learning so much from you AS. You really are the light at the end of the tunnel for weak and feable writers, desperately clinging to hope, that one day their stories will be brandished with the bright, red H of triumph. Do we dare dream that you are that saviour of literature? Our creator and mentor, nay, our idol of worship?

All in jest AS. I thought you were posting humuorously, so I responded that way.

Actually, the choice is not that easy - there's this thing called internet addiction...

But thanks for the heads up. We (speaking for myself) do have a tendency to get caught up in the social aspect of the forum. I keep vowing to spend more time on RL, but there's this "weird word" thread calling out to me like a mermaid on the rocks. Plus, I have to keep up with the "whining republicans", who can be so entertaining.

We (again speaking for myself) all find entertainment in different places. I don't watch TV, acknowledging it as a ridiculous time waster, but then I waste time here. (I also buy the TV shows I like on DVD and watch one episode per night, which accomplishes two goals - the writers for the TV shows make an extra penny because I bought the DVD, and I don't have to watch any freakin' commercials.)

Anyway, glad to see you around, A S. Perhaps you could venture over here more often, posting writing-related threads. Just don't link us to any writing contests with an admission fee. I tried that, receiving scorn and ridicule for my effort.

(Lance - A S is a standup guy and a great writer. He also spends an absurd amount of time editing LIT writers - for free - so you might want to amend you post with a smiley or something. :))

I work an honest job, and limited time to edit. But when I do, I help writers. And yet I am left explaining this to one who lacks skill and a spine, it seems. Who knows, perhaps you'll be dragging yourself, offering lip service for but a taste of what I offer frely to others.

One thing I do possess is spine, your judgement is far off the mark AS. My skills aren't legendary by any means, but I've been happy with what I've written so far. I'm working at a great number of challenges and exercises to improve my writing and yet all without aid of an editor. I have someone who is amazingly talented assisting me and I can see the changes occuring everyday.

I won't deny you any of what you claim you do, or state you do. If you see someone with a talent you think could use your assistance, sending them a PM and introducing yourself would go along way. I just found this display very unprofessional and discourteous of someone trying to attract writers.

Or, we could do what all authors do: converse, observe, exchange ideas, learn from each other, etc.

There's a Story Discussion forum, you know.

WTF is your problem? No one's been anything but nice to you here, that I know of, yet you seem to have this huge superiority chip on your shoulder.

Get over yourself. Everyone else has.

Fuck you and yours, asshole! I just am trying to assist writers helping to achieve their goals, and here you are pissing over them. FUCK YOU AND YOUR WORTHLESS LIFE!

I'll be dead soon enough, long before you are, unfortunately, so you'll have ample time to play your game. But I know what it is, don't I?

End game, you pricey piece if shit!

What the fuck? Are you mocking the editor program, you prsgmatic, egostisticsl fuck??

Yes, I took the bait ML knew I shoukn't because, doing so, has lent your sadistic cause some credence.

You are evil, your ideas are evil, and I relieve the contents of my diseaded bowels upon your sick and twisted throne.

AS, you might have noticed when opening this forum that it's titled: Author's HANGOUT. We are provided three other forum (forums?, fori? forumus?) in which to talk 'shop'. I haven't seen you participate on any of them. We have the Story Discussion Circle. It could use an infusion of fresh participants, by the way, so feel free to throw out a story for critique or hopefully someone else will volunteer one soon and you can join in by giving valuable feedback, you have experience most of us posting now don't have. We also have the Story Feedback Forum. Usually naive, new writers jump in without their AK-47's or life preservers and beg for feedback on their work. That lonely under-used forum could also use someone such as yourself willing to help beginning writers. Especially if you could find something positive to add, since that's sorely lacking. And three more options are the Story Idea forum and the two poetry areas. I'm not interested in those topics, frankly, so I never go there, but they could probably use another experienced writer floating around.

I admit, I wish more of these experienced writers who tend to stay in the AH would contribute to those areas and I (when names such as 'retard' and 'idiot' aren't used) really enjoy the writerly threads that do come up here. I don't often contribute to them because I'm just absorbing.

As for your comment about writers going to the EF to ask questions, well, isn't that partly what the EF is for? I'm not exactly sure what "editing issues" is, but double space, etc., seems fitting to me.

As a member, by the way, you are fully allowed to dig through old threads of writerly material and drag them up to the top for discussion. I'm also sure that every person here would happily (oops! adverb alert!) encourage you to start all the writer related threads you want. When folks do that, others eagerly jump on board.

Lance-- I second the comment that AS is a good writer and has helped many other writers here on Lit, myself included, for a long time. He's always been kind, attentive, and efficient with me, not to mention humble. He was willing to take on a novella even when he was already busy because I'd been dumped by two other editors.

Now, I'm going back over to that awful Last thread and continue my recent Lit addiction. And how do you know that we never talk writing there? Since we talk about all sorts of things that run in our lives, writing happens to be part of it, so it comes up. You've just never stuck around long enough to see that, just dropped in long enough to insult everyone.

I didn't get this far before I posted.

Make that a double *sigh* and add my: :(

Gee.

Oh, what the hell...a bit of vitriol is always enjoyable...

Who edited this post of yours, AS? (By the way, the "a" key is one place left of the "s').

As Tommy Smothers once put it:

"You better not pout;
You'd better not cry'
You'd better not shout;
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is dead."

*siiiiighhhhh* :(

Then who will bring me the present I asked for?

I can't vouch for any of those things myself, but I do know that AS volunteer edits for a ton of folks, and is usually very helpful to people that wander over to the Editors Forum.

That said, I've also seen some inappropriate behavior, blow-ups, and persecution paranoia...he seems to go off for no apparent reason, and with no apparent pattern. Not sure why, but it is what it is.

Still...there was no reason for the attitude displayed in the OP.
