I tend to heavily research my stories and often spend as much time googling as i do writing when in unfamiliar territory. I am working on a story now that involves horse back riding and got great advice from Cloudy on both gaits & saddles.

Between us, I think the wealth of information stored in the brains of other writers might exceed the encyclopedia. Also the unparalled wealth of experiences and first hand accounts of places and experiences is phenominal.

More and more often, before I do "dry" research, I find myself consulting someone here. I thought maybe a thread, where we could pose questions to each other, not so much on writing technique, but on background information might be nice.

So if you are stuck on something, need a description, or some small bit of local color for a place you have never been before, why not try here before you go web surfing?

A terrific idea Colly. Do you want us to post on this thread or start new ones as need be?

I was hoping this could just be a catchall thread where we could pick each other's brains at need. I often turn to people here in pm with questions. It just seems a shame to keep the information that is imparted just for myself.

Granted that some of it may never be useful to anyone else, but some of it surely would be. Will's descriptions of paris were outstanding as were Lauren's of Porto. Cloudy's knowledge of horses & tack is deep and through. I am hoping we can all share here and maybe even pick up ideas from other's questions, for our own characters and settings.

Ok, I just got a glimmer of an idea for my NaNo novel.

Main character: woman who is a professional dominatrix (and her family doesn't know)

idea: she starts out in an establishment where her clients come to be dominated and then eventually moves to her own private place because what she can do in the club isn't enough to satisfy her

What I need to know: what kind of rules are set forth in such public establishments? From what I have read, I can figure out there is not supposed to be any actual sexual contact involved (which is why she will go private), but are there any other specific rules in regards to what she can and cannot do for a client? (I don't know if there are any authors who hang out here regularly that would know this, but I thought I would ask.)

The clubs I have visited in NYC were pretty tame in what you could really do. Actual genital to genital or mouth to genital contact was grounds for being permanantly expelled. Dynamic restraint was allowed up to a point, but actual immobilizing restraint was prohibited. (A domme told me it was because the authorities shut down one club whereit was allowed citing fire codes of all things). So the jail cell didn't lock, the stocks only worked if you wanted to stay in them, and the whiping post was made without anything to attach restraints too.

Basically in the clubs, what you get is more pure pornography. It's all visual stimulation. I have never been to the more exclusive private clubs, but I gather they are much the same.

Hope that helps.

Great idea Colly, you can also get a more colorful view of a location that a writer lives in then if you went on a search.

If it's a public place club where any Joe or Joe'ess can pay their 5 bucks and walk in... bugger all much is allowed other than drinking and pretending.

If it's a private club with members only admitted... still much regulation... including not chaining someone up to the extent they can't reach the Fire escape... but a bit more could go on than in a public club.

Only way to do what the freek you want is to make it a 'Private party' Invited guests only... Probably best your Dom gets rich and buys an out of the way country house to convert into a party function venue... and pays the local scuffers well, sorry police:D

The private members only type club where she has clients who make appointments was sort of what I had in mind for her beginning (though I could have her start in public and move to the private club before striking out on her own.)

She'll end up in total private so she can do whatever she wishes. I just got this idea this morning so I still have much development left to do, but I have 3 months for developing, lol.

Thanks for the help so far. I probably would have never thought about the restraints in regards to fire code (maybe I could even work that into the story to happen where she is working.)

thought I would bump this while everyone was around :)

Hope you didn't block the fire exit with your bump dear:D

I think this thread is a great idea, Colly! I've noticed how we all pick each other's brains from time to time, and this is perfect - one central place for it.

And, thanks for mentioning me.

Thank you Colly for starting this thread. I think it's going to be a great help.

I'm working on a story called Congo Square. It's about Voodoo in the age before the Civil War where the slaves were allowed to dance in the Square and practice their religion. The masters and others watched mesmerized. If anyone has any information on this period and religion please let me know. I am a buff of the era so I'm familiar with the dress and customs. But not the religion as it was practiced at that time. I'm still researching and working it out. The plot is done, I just need the research now. Of course my stories take on a life of their own. So the plot may change.

Thanks again Colly. This is an excellent idea.

Somewhere in my collection I have a book that has a good analytical breakdown of the various west african religions that were all borrowed from to create the kind of ad hoc religion that has been popularized as voodoo. I will see if I can dig it up, but I haven't had a strong interest in it since college so I may not be able to locate it.

Thanks Colly. I'd really appreciate it. The first page is basically done but I'm thinking of changing the pov on it. I am on the edge of going from 1st pov to 3rd pov. Quite a challenge, but with this story it would work. I just need the research to be correct for that era. The problem with historical fiction is that even the era must be portrayed correctly to make it believable. For the religion of Voodoo, it has to appropriate for the time. Not todays, but for a century ago. It was practiced differently then than today. So goes the name Congo Square. If anyone would like to see what has been written so far and give a critique it is appreciated.

Anyone know anything about swordfighting? I ask because I have some RP work to do including a Tourney, and part of this is swordplay...

In a non erotic sense because... well. Yeah. Ow.

On a purely technical level, can a woman actually feel the semen being released in her vagina during non-condom intercourse (as distinct from the twitching and throbbing of the penis)?

Ditto for the anus?

Thanks in advance.

I don't, but I've known women who say that they do.

Not much help to you, I'm afraid.

I personally don't, but I know a lot of women who do. I am guessing that it's like nipple sensitivity, or direct clitoral stimulation, it varries from woman to woman.

I can't usually feel it when he cums, but I can feel a difference, like it's more squishy, lol. If he shoots more than usual, I can feel it leaking out around him before he withdraws.

Type of car- must be red convertable, flashy but not too expensive (ie, not something a millionare would drive but something a company could afford to rent for an out of town visiter), something that people might drive in Southern California that would blend in, probably only two seats, (though not necesarily) and something that you could get at a rental place. The driver of the car finds it too flashy for her but it's not out of the ordinary, or much different than the other cars around her. (Maybe even somewhat 'conservative' for the setting) What type of car might this be?

Anybody know where I can find some *free* property listings for California? Or other place where I might find a floorplan, pictures ect for a 'small' beach-house w/ a deck?

(I tried on my own, but all I found was stuff you have to sign up for.)

An 'arrest me red' Mustang convertible would be my overwhelming choice.
