I tend to heavily research my stories and often spend as much time googling as i do writing when in unfamiliar territory. I am working on a story now that involves horse back riding and got great advice from Cloudy on both gaits & saddles.
Between us, I think the wealth of information stored in the brains of other writers might exceed the encyclopedia. Also the unparalled wealth of experiences and first hand accounts of places and experiences is phenominal.
More and more often, before I do "dry" research, I find myself consulting someone here. I thought maybe a thread, where we could pose questions to each other, not so much on writing technique, but on background information might be nice.
So if you are stuck on something, need a description, or some small bit of local color for a place you have never been before, why not try here before you go web surfing?
