Wandering through the stories here, I have noticed some writers requesting feedback and votes at the end of their story. Anyone want to share if this method really works??
I nearly always offer my email address, pjae@talk21.com, for any reader who might wish to send me comments after reading one of my stories.
I do not know if that has been the reason for such comments as I have received or just good manners on the part of the readers who, after reading a story they enjoyed, felt obliged to send a comment.
Personally I don't mind which it was. Like most I love to bask in praise but can live with the little bit of back to earth critism.
I try to vote often.
I realise that liking positive (or construtive negative) comments, I really should do more of the same myself.
Well, the one story I have posted is a novella, and at the end I added this:
I hope you enjoyed reading "Hostile Takeover" as much as I enjoyed writing it. When I started this three months ago, I had no idea that my idea of a father selling his daughter to a corporate pirate would turn into this long and involved tale. I originally intended it to be a short vignette. I guess this just goes to prove that I am a romantic at heart and I like happy endings.
Thank you for sticking with it all the way to the end. I appreciate any and all comments, even, maybe even especially, the critical ones. <smiles>
I can't really say for a definite fact that I've gotten more feedback because of this addendum, simply because it's the only story I've posted.
I don't think attaching a request for feedback could hurt, however, I truly think that if someone is moved enough to write you, they will, whether you ask them to or not.
