I have been loosely on the lookout for infidelity stories by women authors (or written for women?) that explore the psychological buildup to betrayal/self-immolation/parallel lives, and will report back my findings. Probably it's better not to read too much other material on this site. Thus, one hopes, you can develop your own style. I've only read a handful of other stories on Lit.

Do read other types of fiction, as per William Faulkner: "Read everything—trash, classics, good and bad; see how they do it. When a carpenter learns his trade, he does so by observing." I don't agree with him about writing in the morning. I'm not a morning person and prefer to write in the evening.

Well, it took my protagonist about 20.000 words before she decided to actually do the deed. But most would consider this too long.

Is that in a single story or a series? I don't think I've ever written a story of more than 9.000 words and many are far less. Even one of my series is about 32,000 words if I counted correctly.

Thank you. It's a little fuzzy if there is any difference between a novel published in chapters and a series. I suppose a series is more episodic (how to define that?) and likely shorter. There is at least one series here of over fifty parts (chapters?) and nearly eighty on another site.
