I’m looking for someone to point me in a good direction…

With life only getting more expensive, money is tight for me like it is for a lot of people in the western world and I need help

I work three shitty jobs, I do Only Fans and a bunch of stuff I’d rather not post about

My real passion is writing and I’m looking for the best place to advertise my services. I’ve tried Reddit a few times but frequently run into people accusing me of not following the rules and saying I’m not allowed to mention my gender

I’ve had people being very rude towards me on there because I always offer a free short story to everyone I engage with so they can get a taste of my writing so they can see if it’s something they like

Apparently offering something for free like a try before you buy is wrong…

And when I actually charge for any future work I charge £10 for each short story I write which I have been harassed under the claim I’m undercutting people charging £200 for the same amount of work

I’m looking to do honest work for honest pay as I’m not out to rip anyone off

So this brings me right back round to what I’m asking, can anyone out there tell me a good place to advertise my services on the Internet where I won’t get shot?

I suspect yo might find other communities like that. I'm the American equivalent of a Chartered Accountant, and for me getting contract work is easy. Just luck of the draw that I'm good at something in heavy demand.

I am not sure Fiverr is a good place to disseminate erotic content, but you might look into it. I know it's good for freelance writing and editing work. I'd be careful about social media groups (including Reddit) because most of them, since they try to be supportive, like more give than take. If they have explicit rules, a person should follow them.

I've not played too much with Reddit groups, but, for instance, Facebook groups for writers often have very specific rules about self-promotion. I am sure that it's probably similar with Reddit. Looking online for advice and observing other people and their questions often helps more than anything.

I am not well-versed in writing erotic fiction for money though I have considered doing it, but if you need any specific advice about freelancing and professional writing in general, I do have a Google Doc I drafted a bit ago to help people getting into publishing.

I have friends who are professional artists. They like to say that you are not just paying for the week they spent on the painting, but (in their case) the 40 years of accumulated skill.

I my gut is 10 is too little. this is the classic problem with many new small business people. It's not just the time you spent writing. That's your prime time,and how many of those hours do you get in a week (certainly not forty). IN addition a business isn't just the product, but also all the work you need to do start to finish to maintain the business (even if it's only you) and create and delivery the product. Small business people almost always underestimate their cost and effort.

Reddit can be an absolute dumpster fire, depending on which Sub you're in. It's your work and your time, you should charge what you feel is fair without being reprimanded for "hurting others chances" of being hired.

As aforementioned, I don't move in the Reddit circles. I can only speak from my experience in LinkedIn and Facebook groups, as well as IRL writers groups. Maybe I am out of touch.

I am not sure what the going rate of a la carte stories would be. It's nothing I even considered. I know people in the fanfic community do it for fun. I move in different writing circles. In the end, what you charge is up to you. I always try to see going rates in my area, to see if I can measure up.

Anyway, that is my advice. Have a good one.

I can put forward Wattpad. I know a writer of lesbian romance who landed publishing deals for two novels through talent scouts finding her material on that site. Also, I think there are donations and fan funding on there now too.

Whether they measure up with your ethics I don't know, although if you look you'll find out.
