I just got back from the doctors and I was shocked to find out that I have lost almost 30 pounds. I had no idea !

I have been fat for years. I know it, I live with it. I am not ashamed of my body in any way. But I would like to lose weight too. Whatever size I am, I am ok with, but I am getting older and if I am going to lose it and be healthier, then I would like to do that too. My boyfriend loves me no matter what size I am, and I love him as he is, but I know we are not healthy as big as we both are. My doctor gave me some advice, which is do as I have been doing, but eat a little bread, rice, and potatoes as I can. In other words, stay away from starch and carbohydrates (sp ?) as often as possible.

Eat as much veggies and fruits as I want, cereal in the morning, and lots of meat. Just no starch.

Trying is not going to kill me, where as keeping this weight on is not good for my heart, which is having problems of another sort anyway. I may as well try and see how I can help it.

Maybe those Fredricks of Hollywood nighties I don't wear will look as sexy on me as they do on the hanger one of these days. :D

Heh .... that's the whole key to this. I was not dieting !!! I just changed what I was eating and did not realize I had lost weight. So all I have to do is keep it up !

And thanks Lavender ... I do feel pretty great right now.

Must feel great SilverVeil

Lingerie on a hanger never looks as good as it does on a real body

Congratulations

SilverVeil,

Congratulations to you! I think the key to your success is not using the diet word at all. You've just changed your eating habits and that is something that will work much better in the long run.
Maybe now you can incorporate some walking into your schedule if you feel up to it. That, unto itself, is a great way to feel fit and it's just so nice getting outside and enjoying all of the beauty around you.

Keep up the good work! :rose:

congrats babe... i think i may be taking what your doctor said into consideration. i've been looking to lose some weight (for health reasons) but its really hard being on a college campus. i'm glad the summer is coming.. i know i can do it over the summer and hopefully shed a few pounds.

i hope you do get back into those nighties.. i'd sure love to see a few pics

I'm right along with you, SV.

I've been losing weight, too, but I couldn't really help it.

I paid my bills this month and didn't have enough left over for groceries.

All I have in my freezer is about seven packages of those chicken tenders. I've found at least eight different ways to cook them.

Congrats Silver. 30lbs is alot and glad you got rid of it. And the fact that you weren't trying to lose it makes it an even more accomplishment. :)

SV,

You go girl ! :)

Its pretty cool when you start losing weight and you were not even on a diet or anything along those lines.:)

Hey, congrats, SilverVeil! Major accomplishment. Of course, you do know that the first five pounds are the hardest... after that, if you keep up with it, you keep losing? Or so I've heard.

I agree with the staying away from carbohydrates, but (for an extra boost) try staying away from too much fruit. Fruit has so much natural sugar, that when your body can't use it and break it down, it turns to fat.

Best food to eat (I think) is celery. You actually burn more calories eating it, than the food actually contains. You're chewing most of the time, and celery is basically water. Hmm... now to try and not put the cream cheese on it... ;)

Congrat SilverVeil.....I can relate. I finally found the supplement that I used back in 1995-96 that helped me lose 60 pounds. So far, several coworkers have told me that I'm losing weight. Because I have doing alot of powerlifting, up until now, I haven't been monitoring my weight too often.

Just a little extra advice, Love. This is something that I explain to everyone whom I either train or counsel.

****What is bodyfat? Stored energy. What does carbs feed? Energy. Therefore, if you're not burning off the carbs that you're consuming it will become stored. Hence, bodyfat. So what you want to do is cut back on complex carbs. Those are what I like to call "man made products" like sweets, pastry, certain juices, etc. Simple carbs are fruits and vegatables.
A few items you may want to minimize:
sugar/gluclose, salt/sodium (it retains water), and fats.*****

All n all, good job and keep up the good work, Silver.
