Had a nice little rainstorm this afternoon. 2.5 inches of rain in less than an hour. We even logged a wind gust at 65 MPH.

What was kind of interesting was we were out on the road. I could see the sky getting nice and dark as the wind started kicking up. I looked around and found just the spot to pull over. A Cuban Deli/Bakery with a nice covered portico out front. (I've been there before.)

We pulled under the portico as the first drops started falling. I shut down the bike and we skinned out of our gear as the rain started falling heavier. We stepped inside to be greeted by the lovely scents of fresh coffee and baked goods. We stood there for a minute looking at the choices before placing our orders. Cups of good strong coffee for each of us. A couple of sweets for the wife and three different kinds of Empenadas for me. I slid my money across the counter as they heated the baked goods for us and poured the coffee.

As this was going on the owner came out of the back and stood in the door looking out at the rain coming down. He saw the bike sitting off to the side and turning picked us out right away. Walking over he asked if that was our bike and I admitted that it was. (I was thinking he was going to ask me to move it out from under the Portico.) He told me my bike was getting wet and asked if he could help move it. With the two of us pushing and pulling we got the bike moved further under cover and went back inside where he joined us at the table.

We sat there talking through two cups of coffee each as well as plenty of good food as the rain poured down. He asked me about the bike and about the riding in our area. He told us about riding in Cuba before he left for America.

By the time the rain had stopped we were stuffed with good food and had made a new friend. AS we walked out and started pulling on our gear the old guy comes out with a towel and helps dry off the seat as I loaded a bag of goodies into the cargo box. (Yes James I did pay for them.)

The ride home was without incident even as we dodged the deeper puddles in the roads. There were a couple of places where I had to drop to second gear to motor through a flooded stretch but it was nothing too outragous.

Now I'm sitting here with the rain still falling and thinking about digging into that bag for some more of those Empenadas.
