Wouldn't it be nice if Snowden's dad told his son...

...to go fuck himself and turn down the visa issued to him to visit his son in Russia?

In a common sense world, this would happen.

Discuss.

no, what he needs to do is expose more of the obama lies

funny, as it looks like the KGB is nicer than the FBI/NSA/CIA

"Where my son chooses to live the rest of his life is going to be his decision. But I would like at some point in time for him to be able to come back to the U.S.," Lon Snowden said.

In shackles and a one-way plane ticket to a cell in Leavenworth, sure.

Yes I agree. When he released classified information he put a lot of people in danger, I don't mean government people but normal citizens, I mean some crazy groups in the world are just gagging for information they can use against America as an excuse to do serious harm.

No. That would be a terrible thing; you stick by your kids.

He must be brought back and put on trial if we're to have the rule of law, but at the same time it's probably good for society to have the security state on the back foot every once in a while. So taking the long view, he's something of a martyr.

How many Border patrol Agents did Snowden kill? Oh wait that's Obama.

No matter what it's his son. I don't blame him for wanting to see him, especially if it might be the last time or at least the last time for a long while.
You may not approve of what your kids do but you don't stop loving them. Parents visit their kids in prison and even on death row. I'm sure it's awful but it's not like you can forget they exist or just stop caring what happens to them.

Had he provided his stolen information to the Washington Post or NYT, then maybe he would be a martyr.

Instead, he hid in HK, then Russia. Paints him as a first-class traitor.

He's a scumbag of the highest order but he's still someones son.

His father has become a full-blown advocate for his son's actions, a far cry from not approving of their actions.

Lon Snowden said the political outrage in Washington would fade and added "the American people are absolutely unhappy with what they've learned — and more is going to be forthcoming."

He's trying to save his kid. I don't agree with him but I get what he's doing. Unless it comes out that he knew in advance what was going on then I got no issue with the dad. He's being a parent.
I read an interview once with Hitlers sister. She talked about how devastated they were when it was confirmed that he was dead. Said no matter what he had done he was still a brother they would never see again and it hurt.

It's nice how the heart can gloss over the "mass-murderer" bit.

It doesn't really. Parents of killers are very aware of what their kids did. Doesn't make them feel any better about the punishment.
Dahmers parents were sad when he died. Harris and Klebolds parents were devastated by their deaths as much as by what they had done. You can't stop loving family especially kids.
Sometimes you gotta let them go but it doesn't hurt any less.

Fuck Snowden! What did he accomplish?

He put the entire surveillance issue front and center. Without Snowden this discussion would never be taking place. Doesn't matter what you think of Snowden, hero or villain, he started a discussion that this nation needs to have.

Sounds like Chicago parenting.

He made himself a hipster hero to all these beige mofos looking for the next common-man ray of sunshine who think he actually said something fresh and new.

Only people getting wood off of him are limp-dick pressed motherfuckers wishing for some "event" to pop off so they can go actualize their video game hero ambitions. But they wouldn't do that, they'd let other people rah-rah-rah for them and soak up the hits while they stay at home yapping about it online. Oh, like the two previous tools who posted above me.

It didn't come as a big surprise to me that the government has been spying on US citizens. I'm pretty certain, that Snowden would have had to sign a confidentiality agreement of some sort. I guess that doesn't mean anything to you.
