Probably.

Depends just how bad my government was, who was doing the invading and why.

Though I'd be more likely to function as a medic than a warrior.

It depends. I would have to view my government as pretty damn awful to not resist invaders.

What if they were "liberators"?

My country being America and if it were invaded today.. as things are, yes I would. But I think things would have to be very desperate for them to want me to.

Liberators schmiberators. I know where this question is coming from. If I didn't see my government as a dictatorial regime that had harmed me or had the intention of harming me, I'd be insulted by and suspicious of a foreign power coming in to "liberate" me.

Funny thing. if you answer yes, please tell us who you would be fighting for, and against.

Is it for yourself, your country, or the 'liberators'?

I just thought it was funny yesterday, the President said something like "the Iraqi people have to know that we're not going to stop until they're set free." [I'm paraphrasing.] Problem is, who's telling them? I don't think they pick up NPR or CNN.

Very funny. We'll just keep shooting you until you're free! That's it!

You bet your* sweet ass I'd fight. I am still to hear of the first people who chose to wilfully forfeit its independence and right to self-determination in favour of any foreign power, no matter what regime temporarily ruling the country.

*that means you, Sandia. ;) :D

Can you think of anything more liberating than to be released of your mortal shackles? :D

The problem is, Hussein has slaughtered so many in his own country that just about everyone is affected. Sure, many blindly love Saddam because they know no other way (more likely because they fear reprisals by goon squads), but it's not like the whole fucking country just adores him.

Think about it in terms of percentages. Twenty-four million people live in Iraq, and it's estimated that Hussein was responsible for the deaths of one million of them, or, two percent.

If an American government killed two percent of our population, that'd be close to six million people. That's a Holocaust.

You're saying you wouldn't fight that?

What exactly is meant by "responsible for"? Are those deaths that stemmed from the Gulf War? Military deaths? Civilian deaths? Deaths resulting from direct action by his government? Or deaths from starvation due to bad policies?

You could say George W. Bush is "responsible for" hundreds of deaths as the governor of Texas. Many nations around the world view us as barbarians because we still use the death penalty, but we don't view ourselves as such. We don't think we are being oppressed.

If France invaded us, claiming that they were liberating us from the horrors of capital punishment and use of firearms, which are responsible for the deaths of many innocents, would you be okay with that?

You're looking at it from across the Atlantic.

Things look different from here.

The PROP bureau has dropped 20million brochures for the Thomas Road Baptist Church (falwell's). Since the Iraqis have those international sanctions imposed and Saddam keeps the rest of the money, they probably figure they can't afford the cover charge.

Fixed a typo

thats why the US wont be liberated... all them bastards owning firearms!

My vote was the ever popular 'other'.
I think it would depend on whether I saw any other option to change my government, and what I felt the motives of the "invaders" were.
