Mr K says early van der Rohe and Corbusier, to the first.

He has no idea about the second two.

Architecture? aww man...

Sorry livi, I thought maybe you were laying awake at night unable to get me off of your mind. Or perhaps you were imagining some exotic rendezvous in a carribean setting where we could eat fresh seafood and walk barefoot across a white sandy beach to a secret surfside cove where we would undress each other and slide into the cool ocean for a moonlight swim. Or maybe you wanted to start dressing like me and talking like me.......or maybe you don't understand why others choose to do so....
I thought you wanted the key to my appeal, not architecture info.

Oh well....I'm gonna go take a bubble bath.

I'm glad you asked that question

It's about the disassociation with the past, starting with the Industrial Revolution, and continuing after the First World War.

A rejection of historicism and applied ornamentation, for a more "natural" celebration of modern materials and methods of construction.

PK - Thanks. Unfortunately Mies and Le Corb are difficult to understand alone, let alone as the definitions for a whole style.

IFB - LOL!

Sweater - I knew you'd come through. So, does it become, in the US, a style associated with corporations (e.g. skyscraper)? Also, does it follow the maxim of form following function?

Are you familiar with Mumford's _From the Ground Up_? Is his critique of the UN buildings a critique of the Intl Style? He describes the buildings as mostly concerned with spatial forms (decadent formalism) rather than practical function (human needs). He also criticizes them for their lack of symbolism.

Does it start out with Utopian/Universalist aims? What happens later (1940s)?
