Would a car matter?

Just reading through a thread on a car forum where the question was whether a certain car would help you get laid / pick up more girls?
(The answer there was most men who own the said car were married and certainly older. So other "variables" overwhelmed the car).

So ladies, what do you think? Will you judge a guy by his car?

Gentleman, what about you? Do we like the chick in the Aston Martin better?

Please share your thoughts.

After thinking it over, car does matter, but not for the reasons presented on commercials.

The biggest thing is how it's maintained. If yor car is a rolling ashtray r wastebasket: instant turnoff. The word slob comes to mind.

As far as model, women do make other judgements, and those judgements tend to change with age, especially for sports cars. Younger women will be more impressed by the big shiny, us older gals will look at how you drive, refer to, and maintain it. Based on what we observe, we will decide if the car is supposed to be an extension of an undersized penis.

There is also what I call "the divorced mans car". This is when a guy gets cleaned out on a divorce, be it she gets everything or he suddenly is strapped trying pay off debts the ex ran up, so he winds up in some small, funny looking car. We don't judge the car so much as the situation. Is this going to be a guy with residual anger issues, or high drama with the ex?

So recap: car does send a lot of messages, very few of them are what you hear in the commercials, and that message should never be "cigarette butts and other trash welcome"

My wife was attracted to me partially (a very, very small partially) because of my F reg, Peugeot 406 1.6GE in white... I know girls, calm down, form a queue ;)

Not the car as such but i was the first person my age she had met with a responsible, sensible car. I rolled up to the geek club where we first met in a sensible car, in a smart suit and she was hooked.

Only took her four and a half years to convince me she was the one for me too and to start dating.

So I think it's less the car than the attitude. I also agree the state of the car shows a lot about the person running it... but not everything. I do 30-40k miles a year and almost live in my car some days so it's rarely perfect :)

Interesting replies. In the car forum, most people thought that the car referred (BMW 535i 2013) was a great conversation starter, but that's about it.

All I can say is that I have found that a nice car (in combo with other things) projects the image of a successful guy when it comes to business. (For the same reason, when I travel, try to stay at nice places).

A lady in a pickup truck, wearing a baseball cap, usually gets my attention. Then again, I just saw a thin, elegant woman of about 55 get out of a screaming red Benz roadster, and yes, I looked. And looked.

I would never drive something based on what some uninformed woman would think about me based on what I drove. And how would what I drive: help me pick up "more" chicks unless I'm picking them off of street corners in which case they care more about the cash then the car. When I give any thought at all to picking up chicks I think about how can I pick up a better chick, not more of them... I only have the one dick you see.

It's kind of hard work into casual conversation that although my car would be illegal in it's class under SCCA rules but were it legal at it's weight it would kick the ass of the reigning SCCA champion.

Of my 9 cars the one I've been driving for the last two years was picked up because it was available, cheap, had (barely) enough room for the kids, all weather practical, good balance of fuel economy and power and i liked that for a change I had a vehicle with AC, a radio and windshield wipers...(well I think I have down to six or seven several been stolen , abandoned and or towed- but I digress)

I still have my midlife crisis I could resurrect anytime I want to embarrass drivers of corvettes and mustangs.

I'm thinking of building a rat-rod with 70+ year old solid rusty patina...so far I have the rear suicide door to a 36 fordor v8, and have my eye on the front clip to a deuce nicely bronzed in the desert.

A woman that could appreciate such a ride would definitely capture my attention.

Interestingly a woman I met for breakfast a year ago...( a coworker but we only get together when one or the other of us has been temporarilly fired since our shifts are opposite)... came into the cafe and said are you driving that black Toyota four by four? When I responded affirmatively she said " I knew it at exactly suits you." Funny because I was only driving it for all of the above reasons... I paid 2000 for it and then bump the price to 2400 so he would leave the thousand dollar stereo in it. The truck is growing on me a lot Its indestructible. Add 240,000 miles I probably ought to start shopping for a long block.

And here is the second part.............

She got out of the car, threw off the clothes and told me... "Take what you want".

I picked the car. (You see, the clothes are useless to me).

:D:D:D

Generally I couldn't care less what a man drives...

However, I do love antique cars, so some of those could definitely sway me. :D

I gotta say I love a big car with a loud rumbley engine like an american muscle car they are so hot

I have a Subaru and love to drive fast, unfortunately the police seem to like taking my picture a little too much so I have to cool it
As for guys, I prefer a man on two wheels, who actually knows how to ride :D

It's the man, not the car..

I see lots and lots of sports cars around here (casino's and vacation spot) but I have yet to find myself really attracted to a man because he drives a certain kind of car.

Having said I will admit however that I am partial to men that drive pickup trucks. Real ones mind you not the dolled up ones. I just like the fact that they are practical and drive something that doesn't have to make any kind of statement.

The thing about this is I'm a car guy and a mechanic so I've delved into the car scene quite a bit. I drive a 2004 Ford Focus SVT that I have since put a tuner on, a full exhaust, and some other cosmetic upgrades. I however don't do this so I can attract a woman but just to make my car stand out from the crowd and trust me I get a lot of hate for it because it's just a little 4 cylinder. But I will admit I've driven some of the high end cars like a Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari F40, Ford GT, Porsche 911, and a couple more and I got a lot of turned heads but no ladies approaching me.
