World Cup Thread

It is going pretty much as I predicted. Brazil eased through the first round and is now putting on the pressure. Ghana is fighting back and actually has more shots than Brazil and only one less shot on goal. The "fat, out of shape" Ronaldo has apparently recovered. Comments?

Nope. Still the same crappy Brazil so far. I'd wait until they play a real team, as will happen next Saturday, before judging what they can do.

I think the goalies ran more than him.

But on the two occations in the whole game that I saw him run, he ran in exactly the right direction.

It's what you do when the game is on the line!

The bad news for France is that Nostradamus has predicted Spanish success at the World Cup? well, maybe, you decide. The Frenchman's prophecy reads: "In the sixth month of 2006 the King of Spain will cross the Pyreness with his troops. The legions of Beelzebub will battle him in central Europe but the evil ones will suffer doom and destruction. The Holy Grail will then come, like the King, to Spain." We may as well all go home then.
Pinched from the BBC web site :D

Stand and be guarded? I stopped playing the great game when I was a kidlet, and even I know that what you to is run around, seek positions and try to get past the line.

No, I think dear ol Ronnie and the rest of the Brazilian team quickly realized what they were up against and knocked off the tempo and ambition.

That game was never on the line. Of the 3 goals, two (1st and 3rd) were born from huge defensive errors - and Ronaldo almost managed to miss his - and the other was scored from an offside position. We'll only see if Brazil and Ronaldo are really ready when they play against Spain.

I am definately ready for that one. I think Spain has been playing well, certainly better than Brazil thus far. What's happening to our English amigos this passed game? And, will they fall to the Latin power? :D Lauren does not need to answer, as we know what she will say!

I am irritated that Australia are out of the contest but most of them play football by different and sterner rules.

Diving in Aussie Rules would be a life-threatening act as the diver would be trampled.

Og, Welsh-born, Aussie-educated (and educated in a few other places too...)

By "Spain", the idiot obviously was referring to any Iberian nation, which in the current context could only mean Portugal, as we're the ones battling Beelzebub. Also note the back formation of the word Portugal, which in some medieval seals was spelled Por-Tu-Graal - in a reference to the Cup.

Yes... I'm convinced. Then you need all the help you can get :D

You will notice we have the Knights Templar's cross on the back of the uniform, right above each player's name. That is only part of our anti-Beelzebub protection, the other part being kicking your asses.

Hedging bets, only the Italian is missing :D

Well, after their last performance? I have little faith in the 'azzurri' abilities in football and even a smaller faith in their abilities as great lovers after THAT performance. I imagine in the latter instance I may (like I did watching the game) tap my fingers in waiting for "something" to happen.
