It works for us football fans too. :D

Good point! However, for we colonials, the word football has a somewhat different meaning. Let me add, "Also for those blokes as follows the footy!"

:)

In England we often call Football and Rugby, footie/footy & rugger.
In America is any sports name similarly shortened? Other than 'ball game'.

What about us ladies who do?

England seem to have a fairly "nice" group, but you never can tell till the games are being played :)

can I bitch here?

where did Uncle Sam's Army end up?

%&#$@*%$@*in' Group of Death!

oh, and if we somehow manage to transfer to the round of sixteen? No big deal, we just get Brazil....

...and of course, most of the people I talk soccer with are Mexican...and Mexico got placed with Portugal and two teams that might be fairly competitive if they were playing in NCAA Div. 3.

Okay, maybe Group C (Argentina, Netherlands) is just as rough, but still....

Bitch all you like, Bel! The US have got a really tough group haven't they?

Italy -Ouch!

The only American sport that I am really aware of that has a shortened name is basketball in which the players are often referred to as "cagers."

Getting tossed in with the Azzurri is a really bad break. The Czechs are also one of the top teams in Europe. It looks like a very hard road for the Americans, but there is no other choice. Getting Brazil as a "reward" if they do get out of the first round is adding injury to injury.

The United States has now developed a respectable side. What we now need to focus on is someone who is good at drawing into World Cup groups.

JMHO.

it sucks royally that the germans got the easiest group again. i bet we are going to see them in the finals.

personally, i have my hopes on the netherlands. i just love them. although i think it's going to be another final brazil vs germany.
