I have been fruitlessly searching for work for several months now (and spending a lot of time on the internet in the process). Of course I've received a lot of information regarding "working from home", but hesitate to look into many of these too closely since some of the opportunities sound too good to be true.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone on Lit who actually IS working from their home and can suggest some possibilities and helpful hints regarding these "opportunities". Thanks!:)

Well..

For the last three years I lived in St. Louis, I worked out of the house.. Mind you, I'm eighteen, but I've made over $10,000 in those three years working as a web consultant.. Sadly, I had to close up shop when I left St. Louis.. I miss the work, and more than that, the artistic license I was granted.. Web design can be a lot of fun if you've got what it takes.. Just a thought..

Thanks for the ideas

Thank you both MistressHoney and Gridiron. If you have the chance, can you PM or post along some suggestions of how I could look for these sort of opportunities available in the NYC area?

Plus I consider the positives much better than the negatives at this point in time!:)

i work from home, webmaster, network technician and do some work for microsoft (redmond) i live in ontario though..

I have been working at home for the last nine years doing medical transcription, first for a hospital, now for a transcription service. Sometimes I love it, other times, it is a real drag. Some days, I would kill for someone to talk to across the desk. It is also harder to leave the work "at the office" since the office is at home.

Your postings are helping me consider different ways to search for a home-based opportunity.

Did you all work in an office before your job allowed you to work at home, or was it something you specifically searched for?

Thanks Ascendin and Obstinate Fawn for your replies.

I had to work in house at the hospital for about a year and a half before the opportunity to work at home arose. Now, it is mandatory to work at the hospital for 3-4 months, then they will be allowed to work at home.

Good luck on your search. If you have little ones at home, it can be great to be at home with them. That was one thing that made me come home to work, my daughter then was just 12 (going on 21) and we lived quite a ways (about 30 miles) from where I worked. Working at home allowed me to be more a part of her life and also to keep a closer watch on her.

Thanks again for posting back.

I have no children, but it must be tough having an "almost teen" in your midst, especially in these times!

Best of luck to you as well, and I hope you continue to enjoy your time at Lit! Happy Holidays.:)

That's okay, Asendin.
I'm just pleased to know that there are folks out there who are able to do it. I've had a few minor offers; it's still a hard decision since I'm not sure what I would be qualified to do (other than data inputting and such). Thanks for getting back.:)
