Are there words that, when you hear them or say them, cause an unconscious reaction be it good or bad?

I had a friend who would cringe everytime she heard the word condiment.

Personally, I have a fascination for the word succulent. *shivers* I need to find more ways to work that word into conversation.

What are your words and reactions?

Cunt and the n word ... two of the most senseless words I've ever heard. Both words make me very upset when heard.

On the flip side of that coin ...

Tantalizing is a mm mmm mmmm good word.

:D

I feel the same way about the word "cunt", I cannot stand it when I hear it at all.
However, I LOVE the word LOQUACIOUS

well having grown up bearing the brunt of my peers...nerd, geek and dork don't really sit all that well with me, not to mention the word retard....

I also feel really strongly about any word that is used to disparage an entire race... The "N" word, and dozens of others. "Chink", "Spic"....
I don't want to go crazy naming them off, just want to make sure ya'll know what I'm talking about.

honestly the N word does bother me, and only because some people feel it is ok to use it (I won't say who)....if a race hates it so much, then don't use it among yourselfs....I hear the N word, spic, beaner, etc being used black/black, hispanic/hispanic, but the minute someone outside of a race uses it, then all the crap hits the wall....set an example is my statement on that :)

granted the N word, and others are negative only because people choose to make them negative.....but thats no excuse to use them....
True... But that's also the case with all words... Words themselves aren't necessarily negative or postive, it's the meaning we put into them as a society.

If you get right down it, I hate the word SCHEDULE because I think the word itself is ugly.

true....true....

Actually it's a name: George

Nothing harmful right?

Well, try writing it. It seems like it never ends:

G - E - O - R - G - E --- G - E - O - R - G - E -- G - E - O - R - G - E :D

or

GE ORGEORGEORGE

I seriously always want to giggle when I hear the word "brouhaha."

and Thank You...
These are words I enjoy, too. Simply because we don't hear them enough in modern society.

So, please allow me to thank you for adding them to the conversation.

There is a woman I use to have a huge crush on and we still keep in contact... she was from Ireland and had a beautiful accent, when she says my first name it just gives me chills.

I hate the word cunt when used in a derogatory fashion. Absolutely loathe and detest it.

But when a woman uses it in passion about her own pussy... wow!!

So I suppose 'cunt' for me.... is the bad AND good word.

I've grown to hate the word 'callous.'

And I've always hated the "N" word.

Separately "call" and "last" don't disturb me. But put them together as "last call" when I'm at the bar....grrrrr.

its two words used together that make me cringe...whenever some city councillor comes up with the idea to establish a new 'retail precinct'....I can't STAND it.... - one of my favorite words? : 'Strewth'....:D

I had a friend many years ago who'd break down if someone told her the word "Goodbye." Had her in my arms for ages crying because a friend of hers said that and she couldnt get hold of them again until a couple of days later

I've always liked the word Coruscate. The effect when you light a piece of paper and it burns and when it turns black and around the edges you get that red glow that eats away at it, Coruscation. Sweet word.

Bad word? Someone calling me a racist purely because I'm a white male that grew up in south africa. Judging me on my skin colour and background. Well done dickhead. I'm not in fact a racist, but you proved that you are :rolleyes:

I have always loved the word ardor, it's rarely ever used, but even hearing or reading the word itself gives me that intense feeling! Like now lol
