read the opening page; you've repeated the rules. The OPs post on 16 June 2024 says:
A few of the recent rounds in "Word Chain" have suggested to me the possibility of a new version, a chain of compound words.
For example, one might lead with "freeboot,' to be followed by "bootblack," and then "blackboard," "boardroom," "roomful," "fulsome," "sometime." and so on.
Ideally, it would be actual compound words, but that might run into dead ends, so we could, if necessary, use hyphenated words, morphemes/graphemes that aren't quite independent words (cf. 'roomful' - 'fulsome'), or even two-word phrases.
Let's see if anyone wants to play.
Recent additions:
This game requires a compound word, hyphenated word, or two-word phrase for the next post.
There is some wiggle room, but the ending of a reply must offer a word that can be used to start the next reply.
Yup, to make it easier for new contributors as not everyone reads the opening page.read the opening page; you've repeated the rules.
Right. Too quick a scan of your post. Sorry. We also have to be a bit flexible about the final word in the compound; sometimes it doesn't work with the inflected suffix, such as -ed, to make the next word, so we should be free to change the case/tense/or even fragment the word, such as (please note that the posted word wasn't a compound, etc, to begin with):Yup, to make it easier for new contributors as not everyone reads the opening page.
Right, was wondering why you seemed short at me.Right. Too quick a scan of your post. Sorry.
Exactly, thus the reason I posted the rules.(please note that the posted word wasn't a compound, etc, to begin with):

I'd suggest adding the/these additional notes to your opening post so new posters are aware of the rules of the game.
And regularly/randomly paste them on the thread too, as many don't bother to go to Page 1.
