I understand what you are saying, but I am not sure that communication and knowing someone trumps enthusiasm. To me enthusiasm enhances communication and getting to know someone. That is because people are not robots, what they liked last time may not be what they find erotic or even enjoy this time. We sometimes THINK we know the other person so well, and what they love, but many times that has changed and we are left doing this when really they want that. But being enthusiastic means someone will pick up on some non-verbal cue and make a few changes in their technique. That is because 70% of communication is non-verbal and probably closer to 95% with sex.

Someone that is unenthusiastic is just going to go through the motions, or do what they did last time as appeasement.
