Short Version:
X-23 goes back in time and finds Wolverine to warn him about a dark future. Despite being a clone of him, she falls slowly in love with Logan and they develop a romance while attempting to thwart various evil plots with a few other mutant teammates.
Long Version:
In a dark future, the United Federation of Earth is the largest government in the world. They control dozens of mega-cities spread throughout six continents, and everything beyond the walls of these havens is a desolate wasteland or overrun with mutated animals and malfunctioning robots. President Lawrence Trask -- son of Bolivar Trask -- has grown exceptionally cruel in his old age, and controls most of Congress, effectively making him an unofficial dictator.
Having stolen the Iron Man technology from a dying Tony Stark in 2023, Bolivar developed the first Sentinel prototypes. He never planned to use them as an army, just as a last resort for national security. When Lawrence finished college and joined the company in 2031, he quickly stole the project from his father, killed the old man, and set in motion a series of events that led to a world government with him as its leader and the Sentinels as his enforcers.
In a government lab located in New York City, scientists have been working for years to grow clones of exceptionally powerful mutants. One of their most important projects -- a new Weapon X as effective as Wolverine -- has garnered over two dozen failed attempts. But in 2066, that all changed.
Shortly after X-22 went insane and was put down, the scientists decided to create a female clone -- all previous ones had been male. Using DNA that was salvaged from one of Wolverine's battles many years ago, they created a fetus within the womb of Dr. Sarah Kinney. Nine months later, a girl was born, and Sarah immediately fell in love with the child. Not wanting a life of lab experiments for her daughter, Sarah fled the city and took up solace with the X-Alliance, one of the largest resistance groups. She named the girl Laura and tried to raise her as normally as possible.
The X-Alliance -- named after the late Charles Xavier -- had been led by Wolverine for years, but he had gone missing two years prior to the arrival of Sarah and Laura in Muatoya, a large South Pacific island and safe-haven for nearly a million refugees, both mutant and human. The island's location was cloaked in illusions cast by several powerful mutants, including Rachel Summers, daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey, and Franklin Richards, son of Reed Richards and Susan Storm. Sarah was only permitted access after agreeing to a psychic scan to ensure she meant them no harm.
In 2082, when Laura was sixteen, the Federation finally gained access to Muatoya, and it was a bloodbath. Tens of thousands of mutants were either killed or captured, while others desperately fled into the ocean. Laura -- called X-23 by her captors -- was returned to the lab where she was born, and she was forced to undergo the same procedure as Wolverine -- she had adamantium grafted onto her entire skeleton and her two bone claws in each arm. The procedure was so painful that she lost a little bit of herself, and the next year was a blur as she was experimented on further.
In 2083, some of the rebels had regrouped and managed to attack New York City with the intent to rescue as many of their people as possible. X-23 was first sent to kill the insurgents, but Bishop -- who had been Wolverine's right-hand man in the early days and had been like a father to Laura in Muatoya -- was able to convince her to fight her mental programming. She then rejoins the rebels and fights the Federation.
In 2084, Franklin Richards reveals to his allies that he has been working on a prototype time machine for the last several years. He was able to open a stable portal, but discovered the radiation inside the wormhole was fatal to anyone who entered. He tried sending through a piece of paper with a message, rolled up and tied to a long string. After a moment, he pulled it back through and discovered the ink had deformed and made the message illegible. He next tried a flash drive, but the data became corrupted.
Finally, Franklin decided he had no choice but to wear his most effective radiation suit and hope he could survive the trip to the past, at least long enough to warn the X-Men about the Sentinels and the Trasks. He revealed his plans to the group and prepared to say his goodbyes, but Laura volunteered to go, insisting she could survive the trip because of her accelerated healing factor.
Eventually, Franklin gives in and hands over his suit to Laura for extra protection. He instructs her to go straight to Xavier's mansion and warn him of the impending doom. She is to tell him how an unknown mutant kills Senator Robert Kelly on Wednesday, December 9th, 2015, how that death leads to anti-mutant hysteria, which in turn causes Bolivar Trask to create the first Sentinels eight years later using stolen Stark tech.
Franklin sets the portal for the Xavier Institute at 1407 Graymalkin Lane, North Salem, New York, on Friday, June 6th, 2014. This is the graduation day of that year's class of students, which happens to be the largest class in years. Many current and former X-Men are there for the celebration, as well as members of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. Franklin chose this way so that, as long as Laura can last a few minutes after exiting the portal, she can spread the message to many important people in the superhero community at once. Plus this gives them roughly eighteen months to avert the disaster.
So, Laura suits up and jumps into the portal. As she whips around inside the wormhole, she quickly feels sharp pains all over the surface of her skin. Her suit begins to disintegrate, along with her clothing underneath, and then her skin itself. She feels like she is in a tornado and it is ripping her skin off, but amidst the pain and swirling, she sees a shadow sweep past her, as if someone else entered the wormhole.
There is a woosh and flashes of light, followed by a falling sensation, and then, silence. Laura sits up to find herself laying naked in the woods. Her damaged skin quickly heals itself, and then she looks up to see Wolverine standing a few feet away with his claws out, clearly shaken by her sudden arrival.
After realizing who he is and explaining to him her mission, he reveals to her it is actually June 6th, 2015. Exactly one year ago, at a graduation party at the Xavier Institute, the Dark Phoenix appeared out of nowhere, possessed Jean Grey, slaughtered Xavier, Cyclops, and half the people at the party, and destroyed the mansion before he was forced to kill her. The remaining X-Men separated after the attack, and Wolverine admits he has been wandering the Canadian wilderness alone for the last year.
He then reveals that he is on his way to visit the graveyard next to the burnt down school, since it's the one year anniversary of the deaths of his teammates. Laura arrvied at close to the right place, just in the woods right behind the estate, the same woods Wolverine was walking through to reach the graveyard.
I know, really LONG version. If you managed to read through all that, congrats! I need someone to play 18-year-old Laura/X-23 as Wolverine's love interest, as well as two or four people to play the heroes Wolverine gathers to stop the assassination of Senator Kelly, despite now having six months instead of eighteen. Let's try to keep equal pairings for romance, unless some people can do multiple characters. In addition to Wolverine, I can also bring in Tony Stark or Hulk or Iceman or whatever. Someone could also play Spider-Man.
Anyway, what does everyone think? If anyone even read this far, haha!
