With ISAF in Afghanistan (non political)

Stunning. The one with the family photo got me. And the casket with the little girl in the background. And the one with the moon was amazing!

I just finished reading Dexter Firkins' new book, The Forever War, about military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. What no one talks about in comparing the two conflicts is that Iraq is an urban insurgency while Afghanistan is primarily a rural, guerilla war. The tactics that have worked in Iraq will not work in Afghanistan.

That's why that British commander was so pessimistic in his recent statement saying Afghanistan was unwinnable. The very population along the Pakistani border is Taliban. It's like Vietnam, where the population had to be destroyed "in order to save them".

Great Photos

I love great photojournalism as well. I can tell you that is Afghanistan all right. I am in Kabul right now. What you do not see is the extreme poverty and absolute deperation of a country wracked by 30 years of war. That really shocked me. I really wish I could get out and shoot some photos. (Pro Photographer Myself) However, we have been locked down for a couple months now and cannot go out without escorts.
