Just saw it tonight. What a wonderful movie. What a great acting job - an incredibly powerful performance - on Emma Thompson's part. And how very sad it was...

The movie is based on the play by the same name that won the Pulitzer Prize.

And damned if we don't also get a rare (mainstream) insight into John Donne's poetry! WOW!

"Wit ultimately belongs to Emma Thompson. She is simply outstanding as Bearing, perfectly capturing the character's driven essence and gradual shift from determination through bravado to fear and, finally, resignation..."

"Deservedly hailed as one of the best films of 2001..."

"Director Mike Nichols and Emma Thompson turn the most unglamorous topic--the physical and psychological ravages of cancer--into an exquisite contemplation of life, learning, and tenacious, richly expressed humanity."

I highly recommend it.

She was great in Much Ado About Nothing, as well.

She's also my favorite actress.

good call, dillypop.

I saw it onstage live. It is a powerful piece. Even more so in the theater. But I'm biased.

She's always great - in everything that she's in...

Emma's my idol! Talent practically oozes out of her pores.

I'll have to see Wit asap.

Thompson fans who haven't seen "The Winter Guest" should check it out. She plays alongside her mother, Phyllidia Law. It was a directed by Alan Rickman- another actor I hold in high esteem, and he did a wonderful job.

Down at the Drive-in,
Ellie
