I am going to the hosp today to have an endoscopy done. A very dear friend of mine told me that it is simply going to be me deep-throating a camera. Of course, the camera won't be appreciating it much.

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for all the well wishes. The prayers and good thoughts worked wonders because this test was a piece of cake.

They sprayed the cedacaine (spelling?) in my throat. I have done that to people before but this was my first time. It was like fix-a-flat. It swelled into a foam upon contact and was generally disgusting. Then they gave me the bite-ring and injected the demerol. The tech put a towel over my face and then told me to get up. I rolled back and they sat me up and took me to the recovery area.

He he he. I wish ALL medical procedures were this easy!!!!!!!

The verdict:
I have a hiatal hernia. (Part of my stomach protrudes up against my left lung.)
I have esophagitis (inflamation of my swallowing tube).
There were some questionable areas and they took a couple of biopsies.
I have a prescription for Prevacid.
I need to follow up with the GI doc in 2 weeks. (GI--food tract)

Soreness? Zero.
Discomfort? Nada.
Problems? Zilch.

I genuinely am appreciateive of all the well wishes for you guys. Thank you again. It is good to be cared about and Lit is an excellent example of community support.

Oh yeah--I am not allowed to have chocolate any more. Or caffeine. Of course, can you guess what drink they gave me in recovery?

I take prevacid - I have Acid Reflux - prevacid works GREAT - I suffered for nearly two years before seeing a doctor about this - because I never thought of it as something that could be cured.

Its amazing how much better I've felt since starting the medicine.

I'm also supposed to avoid anything with caffeine in it (coffee, chocolate) - as well as carbonated drinks, alcohol and spicy food...

Well - the prevacid works so well that I occaisionally allow myself some REAL coffee - sometimes some chocolate... and the carbonated drinks and spicy food don't seem to bother me much - drinking can set it off if I overdue it.

My problem is somewhat different then yours - but hopefully you'll find the prevacid works just as well for you.
