ah colly, love, you give me hope. maybe next year?
i have no problems using wrong words, as most here can attest to...id love to write a novel but i always write myself into a corner. STILL have Gunther the garbage man lingering in a castrati's bathroom, waiting for the gumption to ask him out on a date. very twisted mind, have i.

I don't think you would find it as big a challenge if you had a strong idea. For me, the main part of Nano happens in the week before it opens, when I sit for long stretches of time and just play with my plot and characters. I would almost call it mental masturbation. If you get into the heads of your characters and play with them for a while before you ever set word to screen, I woul dbe willing to bet, with your marvelously developed mind, you would have more words than you imagined possible.

wish i could sit there and masturbate mentally. *grin* my method is more... oh hell! thats an idea! and i start writing. ive tried other ways but none seem to suit me. Lucky on the other hand... hell...she can plot out an entire story and just DO IT. i mentally flow chart while writing..its the programmer in me

im always in awe...a perpetual state...when i pick up a book. word slut am i. it just feels good to appreciate others thought process. one day, i will try...isnt nano just once a year?

For a normal story, I just get an idea and run with it. No preplotting. Nano is a little different mentally, but really, the departure is more in your head than reality. In the end, you are telling the same story you got an idea for and did a short work on, just with more detail and more chance to develop it.

Nano is every november I think.

Imp, whatever you get written is a big achievement, so don't give up, ok?

Colly,-you're very right, i 've written stuff in my 50K that is so awful, it made me cringe, but i wrote it, and got back into my stride, so editing will be fun, if i ever do any *L*

Nano lends itself to a certain kind of author. to some, it's really impossible. I alwys think of raphy here. In his works, every word is considered. He will sit there for long stretches deciding if exploded or mushroome was precisely the fit he wanted.

To nano, youhave to be able to let go of yourself and just write. right word, wrong word, less than perfect word, no consequence. Some people just cannot do that.

I think you and cloudy are closer to raphy, you want it to be right the first time and that kind of writing is time intensive.

Another kind of writer who has trouble with Nano is the one who uses a spartan writing style. they have to tell a much longer, more involved and more complex tale than those of us with diareeha of the fingers :)

So - you wanna take a look & tell me where I should embellish? I know I could be wordier in places, but I write fiction as if it's poetry: concise.

Imp,

Don't change your style.

As Colly said, some of us just aren't geared to NaNo. I'd like to try it some year with a story form I've never used, such as action/adventure or a first-person mystery. But with Thanksgiving taking up so much time at the end of the month, that's probably not going to happen.

Last night I counted 57 contest entries. I've read over 20, including most of the ones by AH folks except for Selena, Cookie, and Doc, who are next on my list. Something tells me a lot more entries may come in after NaNo ends.

Rumple Foreskin

My entry is on it's way rumply  though, I've not got very far on it as yet,so don't hold your breath, ok?

I'm that way too. For me, each word has to be perfect as soon as it's typed, although now I'm beginning to realize that it's not realistic.

Imp~

Different stories take different plans of attack ...I had started "Candy Cane" week before the contest and realized it would not make the "Opening" day of the contest < it was indepth> so I sat down and wrote "Pussy in the Christmas Hat" in about five after work days and got it in then went back and spent a lot of time with "Candy Cane" as it would be my luck, "The Pussy in the Christmas Hat" is not doing well but it looks as though it will have a better rating than "Candy Cane" but both are way below the numbers needed to be a contender but, they were fun writes <grin> ...enjoy

Art~

You know I'm always willing to help where I can :)

I'm in the middle of editing mine. Or rather, I'm in the middle of fixing everything my editor told me to.

I also have a new one.....

that should post in a couple of days. A real departure for me, an Erotic Horror Christmas story! I think this was a reaction to all the syrupy sweet saccharine stories out there, including my first one. This one is frightening...or it should be, you tell me.

Sack ;)

We'll see about that now, won't we?

I've read them all... RVC'd em all, too, I think, except Candy Cane (was that the only submission today??) Doc's and Cookie's are fantastic, Rump, get a'readin', man!! Bring tissues for Cookie's and... well, tissues for Doc's, too, actually, but for a whole 'nother reason! ;)

ABS, you've been posted!

And your angelic story has been read, voted, and commented on.

Cookie, Zoot, and Selena, the same goes for you guys, except I got first crack at Abs, or at least her story.

Rumple "all night" Foreskin

YAY!!!! :nana:

Thank You Rumply, Sack and Cloudy for your wonderful comments

Now I can try to read some more of the other wonderful entries. Good luck to all. :rose:

From the few that I've read so far, I can see why. It seems like the Holiday stories are special.
