(From the sticky Welcome Authors! Please Read)

I know. The end of the Halloween Contest hasn't been reached yet but there are only a few days between that and the first posting date for the Winter Holidays Contest.

As before, this thread is to encourage authors to write and enter, to support them when the muses fly away, to sympathise when trolls attack, and to shamelessly beg for votes.

For anyone who hasn't entered a themed Literotica contest before:

The advantages are that once you enter, your entry and all your writing gets more attention, votes, feedback and PCs than it would otherwise get. You also get support from members of the Author's Hangout.

The disadvantages are that you will also attract unwelcome attention from trolls and unenlightened critics. The sweeps of duplicated and illegal votes can cause heartbreak. You will probably curse the marking systems and fail to understand how they could possibly have done that to you. It can be a bumpy ride. If you want to know HOW bumpy, read one of the previous contest support threads.

Please ignore the outrageous unsubstantiated claims; the moaning, wailing and gnashing of teeth that occur in this thread over the contest and voting systems and concentrate on the benefits of writing contest entries. You can use the ignore function to remove those people who irritate you most from this or any thread.

If you really want your writing to improve, critics will be a factor. Entering a themed Literotica contest is one of the easier ways to get noticed.

If in doubt, go for it. You have nothing to lose but your virginity, and if you haven't lost it yet, what are you doing here?

Og

PS. And you could be eligible for the Author's Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest and win nothing but the awe and esteem of your fellow-writers.

PPS. As usual there's a plug for my essay: Entering A Themed Literotica Contest. You will also find helpful advice from others in the How-To section of the stories listed on Literotica. Some of that advice is much more helpful than mine because after all I'm the instigator of the Last Place Contest.

Dang, I missed Halloween. Probably gonna miss this one, too. Stupid deadlines.

Told myself I'd buckle down and finish my multi-chapter stories, and not write anything for Halloween. That didn't work out so well.

I'd say the same for Winter Holidays, but I have a half-finished story from last years contest I would like to get off the to-do stack. I think that'll be my one and only entry.

But I'm sure I'll enjoy reading everyone else's work!

There's just something so wrong about thinking about Christmas before Halloween.

That said, I started my Christmas story. Though maybe it won't be Christmas. Who knows?

I passed on Halloween but there is no way I'm missing out on some Christmas fun.

Now just to figure out what to write? "Rudolph the Magical Fantasy Creature of Legal Age"?????????

Hhhhmmmmmmmmm

OK, I give in

Miss Muse (that damn tease) just walked in, stripped off and sat in front of me demanding attention. What was I supposed to do, say no?

Another story started... God, so much to write, so little time

Yay!

Gotta admit, I listened to Christmas music for a minute the other day.

Woo!

so happy to hear I am not the only weirdo here that does stuff like this.:) I listened to Trans Siberian Orchestra and tried to convince myself that it was for the beauty of the music, not because there are Christmas decorations out in my neighborhood already.

Yes, please do! You know, Ogg needs someone to win the "Last Place" trophy. :D I think you should make an effort to capture the award with that title. lol

Yay! :) lol. (They are awesome though.:))
I started out just wanting to hear Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart doing 'Baby It's Cold Outside'... well, just one more.. one more after that... then I broke out 'Santa Baby' - Eartha Kitt's version, and it was all downhill from there. lol.

This is gonna be the first contest I entered, one of my friends entered the Halloween contest and she got the 7th highest score so far. She's hoping for a Top 5 finish. And i've always wondered how on earth she got so many votes, I usally average about 20-30 votes and probably 30% or so are trolls.

Maybe this is how you get a lot more votes and comments? lol

It is.. you get a lot more exposure out of the contests. :) (Good and bad, unfortunately, lol.) The Halloween one was the first one I've ever entered. Once people read your contest entry, typically they're more inclined to read your other stories as well. :)
Yay! Come join the fun! :)

I'm not going to promise anything, but I'd like to join in this one. I've missed the thrill of a lit contest and I do love Christmas. I did have an idea for a short story last year but I never got around to writing it. Maybe I will this year.

Hmmmmm

Santa In Chains?

Elves Do It Short and Sweet?

Deck the Dungeon?

Wankin' In a Winter Wonderland?

Whatcha Tryin' To Do ~ Dolly Parton

Oh look at you boy, look at them jeans
Cutest little buttfull I've ever seen
I'd like to find you under my tree
Whatcha tryin' to do to me, huh?
Hey look at them boots, look at that hat
You can get in big trouble lookin' like that
Flirtin' like mad, talkin' that trash
You could make a good girl go bad real fast

Whatcha tryin' to do
Whatcha tryin' to do
Whatcha tryin' to do anyhow
I ain't made of steel but if looks could kill
Well I'd 've been dead by now
Tell me whatcha tryin to do to me

Look at that smile, look at them eyes
All lit up like Christmas lights
When you land on my roof tonight
Well here's what you better be
Well you'd better be fit, you'd better be prime
Cause I'm gonna ring your Christmas chime
When you climb down my chimney
Do whatcha ya know only you can do to me

Whatcha tryin' to do
Whatcha tryin' to do
Whatcha tryin' to do anyhow
I ain't made of steel but if looks could kill
Well I'd 've been dead by now
Tell me whatcha tryin to do to me.

ooohhh Thanks Ekittie, way to get the holiday juices going (ahem)
so here are the lyrics to my favourite Christmas song:

Christmas Wrapping
by the Waitresses

Written by Chris Butler

"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

So, let me just get this straight: A winter themed story would be acceptable? Snow, icicles, roaring fire in the hearth...all that jazz? Does it have to take place within a holiday or particular month? Thanks! I just want to make sure I understand the rules :)

I'm not exactly sure... ehh:(
You're gonna have to wait for a smart person to help ya with that one. ;)

theme is xmass. i would guess the story would be place in december timewise, location is up to our imagination. not all countries are having snow for x mass ;) some have hot searing sun, soo many ways to go.

I don't claim to be smart, but

One of the Summer Contest winners was all about a world locked in permanent ice, which then experienced summer.

I guess reading ogg's start for this thread gives the clue. And it's Winter, so if you mention a month I guess it has to be a winter month. But you could always not mention a month too.

I think the acceptance criteria is pretty loose from what I can tell.

I've been in a horrible block for weeks, finally caught a break, on the 23rd. I guess I'll save my story for next year and think about winter.

Mokkelke,

You know, I was thinking that as I read the post. What about those in the other parts of the world? Glad you brought it up.
