Windows Verses Apple

Having cut my teeth on Apples..

I was prepared for a serious knock-down drag out discussion of operating systems.

This was probably better! :D

I will not rest until everyone is using a Linux O/S.

I have a new iBook with Burnable CD/DVD Drive! I have a new iBook with Burnable CD/DVD Drive! Neener, neener, neener!

PS

Windows blows.

Can I come over? I really want to have vanilla ice cream while playing with your iBook.

In all seriousness - how is the iBook. I miss my old PoS laptop and I was thinking of looking into the iBook. (Or maybe a PowerBook :D)

It's just lovely. It's light, beautiful, has a strong, strong hinge, very clear screen, DVD movies look great, burning CDs is a cinch with the new iTunes, it comes with iMovie2, it has Speech Recognition technology ("Close all windows", "Open Photoshop"), and, of course, the Macintosh interface, which is to Windows what a BMW is to Columbo's car.

I'm using it to net surf, design animated Flash web sites, edit films, and rip and burn music. And I can't help thinking that if I had this machine 20 years ago I'd have been burned alive at the stake as a witch.

I'm sorry, I think in my last post I forgot to add that Windows blows. Or did I? Well, either way, it does.

LOL...it's like that in my mind every day. I have to use both Apple and PC computers, and I prefer the Apples greatly.

hehe. thats cool!

I hate Macs. and the only thing G3, 4 computers are good for is making games. nuff said.

I always respect opinions based in a solid, well expressed, factual manner, especially when the evidence is presented with such lucid clarity.

Windows is for geeks and sheep.

LOL So do I. But, honestly, a typical DCL four page treatise isn't called for here. It's a simple question of what blows and what doesn't. Kind of like "Weekend at Bernies" -- despite its overwhelming popularity it still blows and everyone knows it.

But -- if you need proof -- go to a Macintosh Computer, grab the mouse, and right click. What's that you say? You can't right click? Oh, yeah, I forgot. You can't right click. You know why? BECAUSE THERE IS NO RIGHT CLICK.

Tomorrow we'll discuss nested files and candy colored monitors.

WINDOWS BLOWS AS EVERYONE KNOWSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

I LOVE MY MAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p :p

But, but, but.......

You gents are living in the past.....

You see Gates has successfully stolen all the good shit from Mac - and Mac still - as much as it tries - slowly wither's away.

And the more that happens - new shit - don't work on the Mac - or the Mac users have to wait.

So - looking ahead - Mac is dead.

Why would anyone buy a Mac today?

Only the old guard do - the loyalists.

Nobody in their right mind buys a Mac today - nobody.

I guess if all you want to do is play with pretty pictures, Mac is ok. But try running a "photogrametric least squares bundle solution" or a "parabolic surface analysis algorithm" on a Mac, and watch that pretty little lavender or teal plastic box just melt into a puddle. I'll take NT for horsepower anytime.

Every sit-com, dramatic series and movie you watch is written on a Mac. Every school in America that has computers preferes Mac. Every print ad or bulletin board you look at was probably designed on a Mac. More people who want to get on the Internet at home buy a Mac. Most web films, and an increasing number of Independent films (highly profitable today) are edited on a Mac.

Because of the increased multi-media value of Macs more and more software is being developed for them every day. You're the one living in the past, Sparks, the past of Steve Jobs' idiotic management and Window's absolute rule. Mac is the future, and the future is already upon us, and Mac is more popular than ever.

I'm studying web and graphic design right now at a college -- the university doesn't even HAVE a Windows based computer. It's all Mac.

Gates has stolen some of Mac's stuff, but only as far as appearance is concerned (pull down menus, for example). He hasn't been able to steal the actual operating system. The Windows system still can't compete on any level with the Mac system's ease and elegance.

Today's Macs are still better, just as powerful, priced well, and growing in professional use and flexibility.

Databases may still be done on Windows, but Macs aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They're already the industry standard in editing, graphics, design and script formatting.

And Jeff Goldblum does our commercials. So there.

Yes, Dixon there is a right click. Bet you thought I was gonna say Santa Clause. Anyway, I have a programmable mouse on the Mac I use, and the right button is set to "click hold" which brings up the same contextual menu as a right click on a PC would.

Cool. Although I'm thinking of adding on the AirPort to it if I DO decide on it. My old laptop was pretty awesome, but the screen was very very .... well *weak* and *cheap* are the only two words that come to mind as I recall it. The PowerBook is slightly out of my price range, but if it's worth it, I'll wait and save. Probably going to go check them out in a couple weeks.

Thanks Ice - er... Dixon.

Yeah, I came up in the MacWorld...

Cool, artsy machines,

but then I had to make a real living in the real business world.

Now my Linux is the coolest things,

as long as I can avoid the command line...

Oooh, Gates stole what Jobs found at Xerox PARC, huh! Bad Bill! Bad!

To the latter, my son attends a user group for Autodesk 3-D Max. The moderator of that UG works on both Mac's and Windows NT platforms and in my conversations with him, disagrees with you as to platform OS stability.

Well, he's wrong, isn't he?

And whatever Jobs stole from Xerox has been overblown by urban myth and a really good TV movie. You can't jsut steal an idea -- you have to develop it. That's what a really good thief does. Gates can't even do that right.

Did I mention Windows blows?

I don't seem to remember you mentioning that. Could you refresh my memory again, just in case?

I will assimilate you all! I love Linux.

Of course I'm using windows, cuz I'm on my cousin's computer but when mine is done being re-built, well I will be back to using my precious Linux.

DCL, where in the world did you get the idea that education systems prefer Macs to PCs?

More elementary school classrooms use Mac than PCs because the interface is so simple and there is an enromous amount of educational software for the Mac. High Schools use more PCs because they're preparing students for wonderful careers in word processing. If you add them all up, there are more Macs in classrooms than PCs. And tomorrow, the world.
