There is no Win 99... It sounds like a "fix monitor" program. Try updating your drivers from MS Windows Update site.

Win 99 is probably a typo.

Midwest, RTFIXMON could be part of your virus protection program -- as in Real Time <something> MONitor. Updating or changing your virus protection might fix the problem.

Programs don't always identify themselves to the operating system with their filename, because it is possible to have several programs started from one executable or library file.

If your operating system came with Dr Watson, usually in c:\windows\drwatson, create a shortcut to DRWATSON.EXE and put it in your startup folder. It trapped many operating system erros and creates a file listing everything that's running at the time, who manufactured/distibuted the program, what file it loaded from, and some other information. It might trap whatever is causing the program not to respond and report it.

My daughter had similar problems with her computer. we sound up replacing the 64 Meg memory stick with a 256Meg memory stick, and the problems went away. I've never figured out whether the problem was bad memory, or not enough memory.

Sorry about mis identifying the windows. This is the first time I bought a pre packaged computer. I have always assembled my own collection of software. Just MS/DOS. I watched clients have computer packages they purchase grind through all the games, business programs, pre-fabricated data bases and, well I continued doing all my self.

Gateway has a pretty basic package because her school's non apple set-up is Word. I agreed and it was Office 99, Windows 98. I have been working solo for the past 10 years, you get a little out of touch. The problem is not with non-compatability of software. I have only updated what I have and the few programs I have added I made sure Windows 95 could handle, the wife's compute, just in case.

Thanks for the tips. I will let you know.
