Window XP question

I've just purchased a new computer with WinXP.

It's a big harddrive so I partitioned it off (with PartitionMagic) into smaller chunks.
I have 2 user accounts, admin privileges for me and limited privileges for the other.

I can move files and folders into the portioned drives fine but the other account can’t. I’ve already tried to give the other account admin privileges but they still can’t move files into the other drives. Moving files around in C: is not a problem.

I’ve also tried to adjust the properties of the drives but it doesn’t have a setting to allow me to give access to the second account.

Any advice?

I just use the partition tool when installing windows. It works just as well, and it is just like having 2 or more real hard drives. I have never used partition magic or any other program, but it sounds like the settings would be restricted to the account that set it up (like using outlook or something).

I thought of that but I don't like the MS utility. I've used partition magic before and never had any problems. That's what's bugging me too.

I guess XP has more security than Win2K.
Thanks though.

This is just a guess but have you tried sharing the drives you set up within the account that has access to them? Rt click on the drive designation in my computer> sharing and security>sharing tab>follow instructions. I only have one huge drive so I can't test it. Good luck.

You probably have simple file sharing turned on. Go to Explorer and select tools - folder options - view. Go to the bottom and deselect simply file sharing. You will now have a new tab called security when you go to properties on a folder or drive. Set the permissions for either the user in question or everyone to have full control. Then select advance and click the box to propagate the permissions to the sub folders. That should take care of your problem.

LOL YES!!! But it would take me longer to teach her how to use Linux that it would to fix this.

Never know. Pull down a Knoppix CD/DVD and boot with it and see how she does.

Thanks everyone, it was the file sharing.
Turned the sharing on for the drives and it seems to be working *dance of joy time*

And I'll look into Knoppix. I have have my old machine to play with now.

Thanks again all.
