When I click on an email address link from a web page, I get that error code instead of Outlook Opening automatically.

I've tried repairing/reinstalling IE 6, gone back to IE 5, and even triied running a Mozilla browser, but nothing helps.

Tools/Internet Options -> Programs

Make sure Outlook is your default e-mail handler.

A command line argument is information on the command line that is to be passed to the program. They're often shown as %1 %2 as in "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe %1 %2," meaning the information passed in position %1 is an e-mail address to send a new e-mail to and the information in position %2 is a subject line for a new e-mail.

The problem is more likely to be in the Outlook installation instead of the browser installation -- specifically in the registry entries for Outlook where the parameters programs canpass to outlook are defined.

If you receive "The command line argument is invalid. Verify the switch you are using" error perform the following:

At the top of the browser click on the Tools Button and choose the Internet Options button. You'll see the Internet Options Form with multiple Tabs, click on the Programs Tab, and on the "E-mail" option, use the drop-down arrow to change the email protocol. Choose the "Hotmail" option and apply changes. Close Browser, repeat steps, change the "E-mail:" option back to Microsoft Outlook, and apply changes.
