I assume it's for the same reason gay men try to seduce straight men, or straight men try to seduce lesbians, etc. You can be attracted to anyone you like, as long as you acknowledge it's not going to get you anywhere. (Speaking in the general "you" here.)

As for me, I totally have the hots for Ian McKellen. I'd have that man's baby, even if he is gay and I'm a dyke.
 
Sorry, I must've gotten the mistaken impression that homosexuals are only sexually attracted to individuals of the same gender and heterosexuals are only attracted to individuals of the opposite gender. Don't know where I got a silly idea like that...oh wait, it might've been the dictionary. I should've known better than to believe such a notoriously unreliable source. :rolleyes:

Hmmm. Well, I think it's possible to find somebody attractive without wanting to have sex with them. There are plenty of gay men who work with women in the fashion industry, just as an example.

But we could also go back to the "most everybody is a little bit bisexual" theory, if you like.

I think the example you present is more an affinity for a profession commonly attributed to women, rather than an attraction to women directly.

I agree it's possible to feel an attraction of sorts to someone without it necessarily being a physical attraction, but I didn't mention any other kind of attraction. My point was not refering to romantic feelings, but merely sexual feelings.

The theory you present sounds good on the surface, but it gets blown out of the water when one realizes that not everyone is bisexual. I have heard a theory that is similar to that, but with exceptions, such as people who have been unduly influenced by parents or a restrictive religion (I have recently discovered an exception to this exception even).

I don't personally think it's necessary to categorize everyone in neat little pigeonholes, but I think it's a good idea that if one is going to label themselves, that they use the correct label, if for no other reason but to avoid confusion. And it's easier to just say "I'm gay/straight/bi/a chickenhumper etc." than to go into a dissertation every time someone asks.

Aside from those thoughts on the issue, I don't know why you thought of that in response to what I said. If I didn't know any better, I'd assume you were trying to insult me.

What is it about that man? If I weren't a lesbian and totally in love with my girl I'd go for him even though he's probably old enough to be my grandfather lol

Not to my knowledge. He most recently starred in X2 (Magneto) and Lord of the Rings (Gandalf), and he's also in the movie Asylum which is apparently coming out later this year.
 
No Ian McKellen is quite alive...Didn't you see him at the Academy Awards Sunday night...He was quite alive.
