Marines search for fallen comrade
From correspondents in southern Iraq
April 01, 2003

US Marines moved into the southern Iraqi town of Shatrah today to recover the body of a dead comrade which had been hanged in the town square, officers said.

Hundreds of troops were dispatched on the operation after intelligence reports indicated the body of a dead American, who was killed in a firefight last week, had been paraded through the streets and hanged in public.

"We would like to retrieve the body of the marine but it is not our sole purpose," said Lieutenant-Colonel Pete Owen, of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

Military sources said another part of the operation was to arm local militias to fight against members of the ruling Baath party loyal to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Shatrah is some 40km north of Nasiriyah, where Iraqi forces have been harassing US supply lines and putting up tough resistance for more than a week.

My guess is NO , and I don't know why . They will say something brillant like it never would have happened if we didn't invade. Tree huggers have blinders on. They see and aknowledge what serves their purpose which is little more than a pain in the ass. We should load up all the muslims and tree huggers and put them on an island so they can live in peace and harmony together. They desrve each other.

Just like the Palestinian savages . They regularly hang mutilated bodies in Manger Square
It is becoming more and more apparant,

That these peaceful people do not believe in celebrating "diversity".

Checkpoint Hypocrisy
U.S. soldiers shot and killed at least seven Iraqi women and children yesterday after the van in which they were traveling failed to stop at an Army checkpoint near Najaf, CNN reports. Coalition troops have been increasingly vigilant in light of the Iraqi regime's use of terror-style tactics, especially a car bombing that killed four Americans.

"In light of recent terrorist attacks by the Iraqi regime, the soldiers exercised considerable restraint to avoid the unnecessary loss of life," says a statement from the coalition's Central Command. The soldiers fired into the van only as a "last resort."

Gen. Peter Pace, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, say the soldiers "did the right thing." He's probably right, notwithstanding the tragic result. But this incident does open the U.S. government to charges of hypocrisy. Yesterday the State Department released its annual Human Rights Report. The section on Israel accuses Jerusalem of, among other things, using "excessive force while manning checkpoints." Of course, Israel maintains its checkpoints for the same reason the coalition does in Iraq. The only difference is that Palestinian terrorists actually pose a direct and immediate danger to Israeli civilians in their own country.

Agence France-Presse reports that "three US troops were wounded, one seriously, after Iraqi soldiers used a Red Crescent ambulance to stage an attack in southern Iraq." This is another case of Saddam Hussein's terrorists aping the Palestinian Arabs; an article in The Lancet (link in PDF format) describes how Palestinian terrorists use Red Crescent ambulances to smuggle weapons. And of course the State Department faults Israel because it has "obstructed the movement of and occasionally fired upon medical personal [sic] and ambulances."

Didn't you know only the US can cause war crimes? Only the US can cause war attrocities?

There is plenty of anti-US sentiment being posted on these boards, but for all their screaming, for all the protests around the world, including here at home, not one iota of it is stopping our troops.

Perhaps its time the rest of the world wakes up to one fact. When we set our minds to do something, we're going to do it and to hell with the complainers.

Perhaps it would be a different story if it had been the Sydney Opera house and 3000+ dead on 9/11 or the Eiffel Tower, or the house of commons etc... But it wasn't.

Does this make that eventual militia terrorists and not subject to the Geneva convention ?

Or are the US going to supply them with uniforms ?

Perhaps since they're on the "right" side they're considered a resistance movement even if that Militia would waltz around in civilian clothes without unifying marks or carry their weapons openly.

As for those hanging up the dead of their enemies, they ought to be dragged after a Bradley "Pour encourager les autres".

Nice attitude - it's no wonder the US is so widely liked.

Why are you even making this an issue ?

Of course the Anti war crowd would scream bloody murder if it was the Coalition doing this. The reason they aren't when it's Saddams lot is that no one expects anything else.

To make an anology:

The school bully bullies,no one expects him to not call the skinny four eyed geek anything but that and steal his lunch money.

Though people tend to react a bit more when it's the straight A honour student that does the same thing.

Please don't tell me any of you ever thought that the world was fair.

Though I'm still bloody curious as to whom set those strange ROEs for that checkpoint. The car doesn't stop then you don't piddly ass you launch a HiEx or AT round into that fucker.Warning shots,I wonder what's next.
