In South Africa, where the demographics are kind of reversed from those in the US, whites vote en block for the Democratic Alliance (I think that's what its called) regardless of their views on social issues or other issues, kind of like the blacks as a racial minority here vote en block for the Democrats regardless of their views on non-racial specific issues. It seems to be a common phenomena for racial or ethnic minorities to put aside issues to vote en block. Unfortunately, I don't see that changing soon in either country.
