You're not going to please everyone here. I, for one, am glad there are so many different threads here, and get to see all the different personalities. Now if people who didn't like what was going on in your thread ,would just stay the hell out and move along, then there would be less things to bitch about.. If I don't like the topic, then I find one I do. Simple as that, but I don't go in and bash the people in there because I don't agree with what they are talking about.. It's simple really,maybe too simple?

Funny you should start a thread on this topic - I had this discussion recently...

Your implication - that no thread is OK with everyone, and that any topic is bound to be flamed by someone...

I agree... There are 4 or 5 categories of threads...

• Silly/fun threads - and of course there are those who will complain about all the silly or "inane" threads
• Serious threads - political, religious, etc... and those that complain about lack of fun - not to mention that these threads can often lead to name calling, nastiness - and, more often than not, people debate each other rather than the topic at hand. That's why I tend to avoid these threads - but I am not knocking them - real debate would be most welcome. And that means listening and responding to what others have to say and not just getting on your soapbox and lecturing. I see very little real debate around here.
• Flirting threads - I guess I could include this in the silly/fun category but I feel it deserves to be highlighted. They're great - this is an erotic site after all (and I don't care if some of you say you're tired of hearing "but its a porn site..." Well, FUCK YOU... it is a porn site! *lol*) I've been accused twice recently of being predictable. The first time in a playful manner and the 2nd time not so playfully. Yes, I have been quite predictable lately and mainly flirting. But go ahead and take a look at the threads I've started (which will lead to my next category - thoughtful/esoteric/intellectual...) they tend to die a quick death. Anyone want me to be less predictable? Well then, try engaging me in a discussion that requires some brainpower. I'm up for it... anyone else?
• Thoughtful/esoteric/intellectual, etc... these threads can be serious OR fun - I separate them from politics/religious types of seriousness in that they are not necessarily contentious. They can lead to real insight about people. Or make one aware of new concepts, new ways of looking at the world - or just remind people of things they may have forgotten. See my DaDa thread, for example - or any number of the Zen/mystical threads I've tried to start in the past. Poetry threads, literature threads...
• Getting to know you threads. Guess these could be under fun as well - but they are the... "how old are you," "what do you do for a living," and most of the poll type threads. Pretty tame - and sometimes insightful...

I may have a category or two, but in essense I think that covers the general trends. Why people bitch about one or the other I'm not quite sure. Avoid what doesn't interest you - participate in what does... its not that hard.

I've started a good deal of threads in my time. My DaDa thread has maybe a dozen posts? Yet the thread I started months ago "Orgasms: A running total" has 374 responses and over 5,000 views - probably the most of any thread I've started... what's that tell you about what most people here are really interested in?

And maybe - just maybe - take a step into uncharted territory and open a thread by someone you don't know, or on a topic that you might not usually - apply some thought, craft a reply, and see what happens. You might just find your horizons broadened a bit. Certainly a better use of anyone's time than bitching about this that or the other thing...
