Well, you know, some parents do an excellent job of sheltering their kids these days. I remember meeting one girl back in college who had no idea where the clitoris was. She was an otherwise brilliant girl (graduated early, etc), but she'd grown up in a strict Indian household, and gone to school in one of the Southern states where sex ed was a big old joke. I think going to college away from home is probably the thing that saved her from being the girl who asks that kind of question.

The trouble is that the person who asked the original question was doing research: asking for expert advice.

He even had an adjacent pool-house type thing built for when any of the women had their period.The girl in question didn't have a boyfriend until after we graduated college, and I think her first date was sophomore year.

ETA: It wasn't foolish on your part at all. It just reminded me that some things we have easy access to are the same things certain people try to make sure remain unknown to others.
