Jul 24, 2022The Social Security Expansion Act was introduced on June 9 by U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), CBS News reported. Under terms of the bill, anyone who is a current Social Security recipient or who will turn 62 in 2023 would receive an extra $200 in each monthly check. The bill is timely for a couple of reasons.

That plus an 8-11% COLA raise could be interesting.

What is the anticipated gross increase in total $ costs per annum; $2,400 + Cola is unaffordable perhaps? Have the Bills supporters done their sums; it does not look like it from the press releases?

What's it going to cost us in inflation going up further?

What is Bernie's record in getting legislation passed that he has been a major sponsor of? I can think of the naming of two post offices. What else? Not an add-on sponsor; a major authoring sponsor. He's not a Democrat (or a Republican); it's hard to built a consensus from the back, nonpartied benches (and the far edge of the spectrum).
