I changed my name to mark the change in my life that released me from your grip. I know you are aware of how difficult it was for me to be separated from you and break free from the unhealthy, torturous cycle I was caught in, so I would appreciate it if you would not call me by the name I had when I was your " serious sucker"... But the thing that really got to me was standing outside, waiting for the valet to bring my car around, when the life flight helocopter flew overhead, very low to the ground, preparing to land on the building behind me. Dust and leaves blowing everywhere, my hair whipping around my face, and it was like being punched in the stomach, you know?

I realized that I could either collapse on the ground in a teary heap, or I could make a mental note of a newly-discovered trigger, and carry on. I decided that I was too busy for a meltdown that day, and drove off to have an iced coffee instead.

You know that I will never call you or think of you as "Sunshine" and you know exactly why. And you know you chose that name change very deliberately, and it has everything to do with it being my pet name for someone I loved, who is not you.
