The howls of monkey resounded through the jungle, sending a shiver of excitement down the collective spines of the Pilipino tour group. Against the advice of their families and friends, they had decided to undertake a safari adventure in the heart of the Yoyku forest. Located in the heart of the small and isolated African republic of Yonkongu, this vast expense of lush tropical greenery sprawled without interruption for thousands of hectares. For decades since time immemorial, the forest had been home to the Yanga tribe, secretive elephant hunters who were feared by the other natives of the country for their martial prowess as well as their reputed skill with sinister occult arts like black magic. There were even rumors that the forest people were ravenous cannibals who enjoyed feasting on the flesh of those fools who dared trespass into their domain.
But now the newly elected government had decided to disregard these old fears and open the forest to the hordes of tourists whose arrival they expected. The teeming and spectacular array of wildlife here would be a lucrative source of income. It was this prospect of easy money that had induced the group’s two tour guides to sign up for the job , despite their terror of the dreaded Yanga. Even the rifles they carried, did little to allay their fears of becoming part of a cannibal feast.
With a look of barely repressed terror on his face, one of the guides addressed the assembled Filipino tourists. '‘Ladies and gentlemen, please do not wander off. The Yanga are cannibals. They will eat you if you stray!’’
