God I love this site. It's big letters are easy to read:), It's intellegent yet still pretty easy to understand, it's full of information- and often very heated debate, and you just click click click all over the place. It's like a condensed version of the entire idea behind the www.

I'll start by searching something that leads me to a wikipedia page. Then I'll be reading along and there will be something hotlinked that I realize that I don't know enough about and off I go. Eventually, I end up learning something about something completely unrelated to my original question.:)

I love sitting down and just reading through a print version of the encyclopedia- (geek that I am:)) but I never thought I'd love an online encyclopedia the way I do this one. I still like the big heavy book in my hand, but Wikipedia is so much fun. It is quickly becoming my new obsession:)

Wikipedia is C00L. :) I have it set as my homepage.

Have you ever perused everything2? "E2 is a not-for-profit website containing a wide range of original written material. The material is voluntarily contributed by people from all around the world. These people have a common interest in writing, but otherwise represent a broad spectrum of ages, nationalities and backgrounds."

Where's you been? I've been using 'wiki' for ages.

Have you tried the 'Urban Dictionary' tet? It's real fun.

It's the ultimate timewaster, because you start off actually researching something that you needed for the work that you were doing. I started off today reading about Extreme Programming and the roles required and ended up going through management techniques of Rolled Up Newspaper and Flick the Bozo Bit to urban legends about the Two Stout Monks.

Clickety-clickety.

I guess it just never caught my eye before. Great way to waist a day. I forgot what my original purpose even was.

I agree, it's really quite absorbing. still, it's far from consistent on an authoritative basis, which kind of undermines its purpose. the idea that, if it is wrong, someone would have changed it, is just not good enough for a serious reference work. It's certainly interesting for a quick take, and usually points to some very good original sources, but it's not the sort of site that amounts to an authoritative citation, and that's important to remember.

This is very true. For some subjects it is very firmly stating a very one sided view of an unresolved (and in some cases unresolvable) argument.
