Wide open day

I know where the brothels are, but they keep a very low profile.

Would this work in your town?

There's no sex industry here where I live in suburbia, but over in East St. Louis, this would be a great way for them to promote the strip clubs. It would be like free day for the special exhibits at the art museum. :D I'm sure all the conservative folks who already hate the east side would just about drop over dead.

In twenty-five words or less, NO!

I'll now yield the rest of my time to Vella or any other Texas resident who might feel an urge to elaborate on my somewhat terse response.

What if they included a shooting range and gun show?

I would echo Rumple reply, but around here it would be "Hell no!"

If some of the local women could actually see the ambiance [read lack of] in a whorehouse of backstage at a strip club, they would quickly see a few things.

1) The sex workers are, in general, not beauty queens. [I mean before a few belts of 'Old Cannibal Sweat.'

2) The rooms backstage are not at all attractive.

3) The sex workers are not really a threat on a conversational level.

However, they would also see a few other things.

1) Most of the sex workers are young [I suspect that there a more than a few fake IDs.]

2) Most of the sex workers are in good physical shape, particularly those who dance as well as screw.

3) All of the sex workers have discovered a miracle potion that eliminates headaches.

I'm pretty sure there's not a sex industry where i live. it's too small a town and the students are all too busy screwing themselves for free to ever consider paying for it

so true. i feel somewhat like a villian because we have to hide our elaborate dildo collection. having >6 is against the law here and they cant be flesh tone. we are outlaws. ;)

Damn it!

I missed out. I'm not going til Tuesday. I intend to spend plenty of time getting to know the Red Light district, anyway

I despair. Even Rumply!

Holland and Germany, increasingly Belgium and France, have faced facts. Like drugs, gambling, alcohol - now even nicotine - prohibition sucks. Acceptance, with regulation, health care and employment rights seems a more helpful way to go.

There are two lines every night walking down the red light streets in Amsterdam - a beautiful canal lined area - near the water are the sightseers and close to the windows are the punters. It's a long, long way from kerb-crawling. Oh, the police politely advise you which lane to be in.

Having just read a survey that says that 91% of Americans believe in God, let me just add Da Vinci Code, Mary Magdalene.

Vella, please report to a state correctional facility ASAP with your collection of flesh-toned protruberances to ensure they are within State approved tolerances.

Your "hands"? You sure they'll be there and not somewhere else? Cold for that matter? ;)

Actually, it is true. However, the 'you' they are talking about is the guy's wallet, not the guy.

Thanks Ogg, for the link...and the thread...

Europeans in general seem to be far more tolerant of many things than Americans are.

I rather think the prostitution scene in Amsterdam has been glossed over and that the grimy background of mob money, pimps, madams, disease and an increased crime rate reported by other sources as a real problem.

A film I have not seen before is now playing on Lifetime Movie Network, "Human Trafficking", which I guess is destined to become a miniseries.

I live in a town of about 500 people and I probably know just about everyone. Believe me, nobody looks like those girls!

There are problems with criminal involvement with prostitution in Amsterdam as with everywhere else but because it is legal there, the prostitutes can get the protection of the law and they have to undergo health checks.

In the UK the police have been running a nationwide operation to find trafficked women forced to be sex workers. They have found and released a number of them but not the hundreds that popular rumour thinks exist. The European Union has just legislated that such people can be granted temporary residence while their true status is determined. That removes one of the threats made by the people traffickers "If you escape the authorities will deport you". The threat can still be made but it is no longer true. Instead any illegal immigrant coerced into prostitution in an EU country will be given temporary accommodation and help to escape from their situation. They can also testify against their captors from a safe haven.

Prostitution is legal in the UK but 1. running a brothel and 2. profiting from selling the sexual services of OTHERS and 3. soliciting in the street are all illegal. A brothel is defined as three or more women. Two women and a "maid" is not a brothel.

Our Chamber of Commerce prostitute member paid taxes on her earnings because they were legitimate.
