Why is it that we refer to pants, panties, underwear, etc. as a 'pair'? Why do we call them "them"? It's one item we're talking about. If a shirt is singular and we say "oh, i love it" why isn't underwear singular, why do we say "i love them" instead of "i love it"??
Furthermore, why has this question driven me crazy for so many years?
