Woman Stabs Boyfriend, Avoids Jail

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) - A woman who stabbed her boyfriend after he suggested a sexual threesome with another woman won't have to go jail.

Cathy L. Turner, 36, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding Tuesday. Judge Joseph E. Spruill Jr. gave her five years in prison but suspended the sentence and let her off without penalty.

Steve Carty, Turner's live-in boyfriend, had asked the prosecutor to drop the charge, saying the couple had just returned from a cruise and are getting along better than ever.

According to prosecutors, Carty, Turner and a female acquaintance had been drinking heavily at the couple's home on Feb. 24. Carty suggested a menage a trois to Turner. Turner responded by stabbing Carty in the chest, belly and collarbone with a kitchen knife.

Mr. Carty was hospitalized for four days.

Mr. Carty testified Tuesday that he was teasing in suggesting a threesome.
