Sometime ago @Bramblebunny had a thread about watching what you divulge here and how easy it could be for someone interested enough to find out your identity, especially in this day and age of big brother tech.

A friend here sent me this yesterday.

Its a short thread, but it seems the OP edited his original post which must have been much creepier judging by the reaction of some of the people who replied. The guy does apologize and backtrack that they just want to communicate, but if they're familiar with this site they should know about the feedback option and both Silk and I have ours open to anon so anyone can contact us. I have a feeling they may have been looking for more information but got called a stalker so backed off.

I like the posts about not living up to expectations and the last one talking about ever have someone sound sexy, then you meet them?

I think Silk might live up to some expectations going by a pic or two I've seen, but trust me, no one wants to meet me.

Making light of it, but I'll admit when I first clicked on it, I had a twinge of "jeez..." I'd never worry about myself, but my wife would be another story, people today are legit nuts.

But one person did link this forum so if you post here and are a bit of an over sharer, you might want to think a bit about this.

Point taken, but I'm happy to divulge here that if anybody wants to come and explore their fantasies with me, my address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.

(edit - before anybody thinks this directed at the current resident, let me point out that there have been several famous indiscretions occur at that address!)

I am the worst secret identity haver.

At least four people from here know where I live, three know my real name, two have my phone number, and one has my (now old) address.

Three also know what I look like. One poor soul has heard me sing, that might've deterred them from ever looking into me further, though.

Jeez, now I'm jealous.

Nice heads up. Agree entirely

That is creepy, no matter if they have back-tracked the OP.

Like you, I hsve friends who know these things and people I've met for lunch or dinner, spent a weekend with, or have been to my home, but I've known them for years. I'd never put out this type of information in a post or in a casual chat.

I don't think anyone here knows my identity or wants to, with the possible exceptions of a couple of editors I've worked with on my stories.

Seeing they mentioned expectation, I'll toss them a pic and they can see if I live up to them. Hint: I'm in the middle and before anyone asks, neither of the two women are my wife.

(Picture)
This is a slight (but only slight) reach:

Full face of the bystanders, particularly the one on left. (Side topic, did she consent to her pic being posted?)

But suppose they are active on social media and either they or someone else searches in either that picture or just facial recognition? Breadcrumbs. Not to mention the book titles, figuring out whose booth that was, what convention it was, who was there in an anonymous mask.

So one small step further away from the usual searching concerns, I’d label this as one to be careful about posting too.

Also, let’s not give AI too much credit: all the tools to do this sort of thing exist/existed regardless of AI. Perhaps AI reduced the skilled stalking levels involved. But it is/was possible nonetheless

They both consented to the pics being shared. The woman on the right-my left-is an alt model who has posted these pics on her insta, FB, professional page and other places. The woman on my right has also done some modeling including sets with the other woman. They passed out their cards at the show and were cos playing for the attention while helping me sell books.

If anyone recognizes the event, only alternate realities that runs most major comic and horror cons, gets your information, the booth is whatever your business or pen name is. The names both women use for their modeling are not their real names so even if you find their social media through this you're not getting their real identity.

Like you said its not quite as easy to find someone as some make it seem. I imagine the only people who would have to have some other connection to follow up on.

I've seen people here give so much detail on where they live, what they do for work, where they like to hang out, that they're all but handing it out. If you don't do that, its difficult.

But what the thread I linked proves is there are people who want to find out.

I have to think facial recognition on me in this picture would turn up a lot of hits.

Also. Issues include connecting one alt life to another. Linkages. You probably hide your mainstream alt identity differently to your lit alt identity. We all do. Not all of us post pics of others though.

on Literotica? Does your model know your secret life here?
Yes, she is familiar with the site and does know about my material here. She actively reads BDSM stories here and has done fetish shoots.

I'm not doing anything they're not comfortable with. They're both also active on Reddit as well. Both their partners are comfortable with all that they do as well.

Totally concur with this

AI was born to find links and I've cautioned Litsters before about revealing too much or even posting. photo. IRL I've started telling friends to stop posting pics of their kids online - we don't need to know. I dare say if someone dug hard enough they could find me but there's no point making it easy.
I've spent most of this year improving my online security and would urge everyone to do the same.

The model identity was a side topic:

Nonetheless a motivated person could use that photo as a vector. The photo is not zero risk. Book title. Face. I didn’t bother seeing if geolocation was stripped. Not zero risk. That’s the point of this thread. You think other stuff is bad but this pic is ok. That’s your prerogative.

There was an author here who revealed they were interviewed for their mainstream horror series by a radio program. They posted a link to that radio interview. Maybe you know the guy. Was that handing out info? It seemed risky to me!

I’m agreeing with the overall tone of the thread, which is be careful. Clearly we differ on how to be careful, but not on “be careful.”

Seriously. It is sad and frightening that for a variety of reasons people should be wary of sharing pics of their kids publicly-as opposed to having settings where only friends and family can view them.

I think I know that guy. My real name was never mentioned. If you know me by voice, safe to say you already know me.

You haven't figured out the game here on this.

But quick question, when you haunt the am pic threads do you tell all those women posting pics, that they maybe shouldn't be?

Then again most of them are their husband or ex posting them anyway.

Pretty sure things like that are behind some of pic changes here.

I found someone from here's real identity with three points of data on them. (They were adamant that I couldn't. I just wanted to see if I could. I did.)

Those data points were: job description, state they live in, and one aspect of their past that would go on their resume. I found their LinkedIn in about five seconds. It was literally the top result.

I am not a stalker, I just like puzzles and he gave me one to figure out.

About a week later he gave me the link himself and I had to admit I'd already found it.

Pretty bold accusation there.

Regarding other stuff, I always expect you to have excuses for everything. I will repeat the term I used earlier, “breadcrumbs.” Cautious people don’t leave them. Careless people do. You leave breadcrumbs. You fail in the very post you started.

My concerns, you could even say paranoia, regarding technology vulnerabilities are based on fact and familiarity with the technology behind it.

Like your former arch nemesis who you admitted to backtracking and looking up yourself, I will add, you will win this because you spend more time here than me and thereby have greater odds of getting the last word. Congrats. Facts nonetheless remain on my side.

Anytime this comes up I can't help thinking about Keith, the guy who worked for the CIA and was so secretive I had his real name not long after-same as you-he commented he had no worries because no one could find him. Another poster did as well and even drove by his house met him and did an interview with him about where he worked at a university.

When we hadn't heard from him in some time I found his obit in minutes.

There was a woman who posted here some years ago who was also from RI and being a small state, she remarked about a landmark once, then a pic of a view from her backyard and I could tell right away not just the area she lived in but the street. I'd never do anything with that, and we did end up meeting up when I did a terror Con event and her and her husband went to dinner with my wife and myself. I think other authors or members here interest would mostly be safe, just seeing the person behind the persona. I worry less being male because most of the creepazoids here seem to be men slobbering over women.
