Why you can't have nice things.

How about this one, for starters:

Do away with the law of "qualified immunity" nationwide.

Cop fucks up, he loses at trial, victim gets paid from cop's pension first.

Garon-damn-tee you there would be an immediate drop in "overpolicing".

Officer Stumblebum would think twice about "street justice" when his pension is on the line.

There you go. At least there are specifics. So all of the grievances would be solved by this?

If something like this were ever law the same would go from the law enforcement perspective. Criminals that lose in a trial would have everything taken from them and given to the community that they have damaged. Every penny. In many cases it woudn't be much but that's OK. Take every penny and remove them from their pension system, "Social Security."

In this specific case the Minneapolis Police Chief - who was well aware that he had bad cops on the streets - should also face justice.

First of all, I never claimed that ALL grievances would be solved by this. I don't have a comprehensive list, neither do you. I threw out one thing for debate.

I'm not sure where you're heading with your response. In the criminal justice system, the loser always pays, unless he or she is a cop. Plenty of laws on the books already to confiscate anything and everything a judge sees fit to confiscate. The one thing a judge cannot confiscate is a cop's pension. Remove this roadblock, make it an even playing field.

Okay, two things. No one can confiscate anyone's social security (to my knowledge). That's sacrosanct. Everyone needs a barebones standard of living...even a dirty cop or a crook.

Insofar as a superior being responsibile for those he manages....that used to be the case in the military, not sure how realistic it would work in the "real world". Police chiefs are hamstrung by police unions.

Hell, Minneapolis citizens threw out the entire "law and order git them niggers' politicians back in 2017 but nothing has changed. Why? Because the new politicians have found themselves battling a scorched earth campaign by police union lawyers who are dead set on preventing any change. The Minneapolis police department functions as an entity devoid of any oversite.

We're seeing more and more of this "we is above teh law" posturing of late. It needs to end.

Holy shit Rob and I agree on something. Deregulation!! Rob has gone Glibertarian!!

Now Rob, how do you feel about these unions that keep bad cops protected and ensure they just can't be fired for anything short of a heinous crime and in some cases not even then?

I would personally like to see some reforms that make it easy to fire cops for misconduct.

Hey, if it works for cops it'll work for teachers too. :)

That's the thing. Each municipality and law enforcement area has different problems. The entire system is not broken. There are places where law enforcement is closely tied to its community and both sides create the best possible environment to make the public safe and be fair to all participants. There are great cops, excellent city/county/regional leaders, and an engaged public. Not everywhere is a Minneapolis. That's simply not the case but we never hear about the thousands of officers and good citizens of every color, creed, age, and gender doing good things. All we hear about are the bad situations which are far, far outnumbered by decent folk. Far, far outnumbered.

Then there are places where the system needs tweaked. These communities should have constant assessment of what works and what doesn't work. Then make changes based on rational decision making and input from appropriate entities.

Then there are places where the system is absolutely broken for many reasons (corruption, greed, poverty, broken families, crap school systems, distrust, racists, opportunists, phony promises, decades of neglect) and on all sides. Targeting these places is the key but systemic problems are very difficult to overcome. And it hurts everyone. In those places people try and often the system fails. That's where the focus should be. Resources, assets, and attention might jump start a re-birth. It isn't only law enforcement but the economy must be able to lift people out of poverty and give the ones who want a chance to thrive an opportunity to build a life and raise a family. It can be done. It happens all over the world.

Then you have places like New York where the Mayor and the police take an oath to enforce the law and support and defend the Constitution, but the Mayor quietly tells the police not to enforce the law and the Constitution as it applies to certain people, the cops go along with it and chaos and death ensue. The Mayor of NY should be arrested and jailed.

Now post the overwhelmingly superior numbers and photos of white males killed by the police over the same time frame.

Go ahead, knock yourself out. I hear your bud, Steve King, just had some time come available on his calendar, maybe he can give you a hand. You guys seem of like mind.

These "racists versus Blacks advocates" armchair fights are starting to look stupid.

I'm a (peaceful) protesters sympathiser myself,
but I'm gonna shut up because I don't want to look retarded.
