Why would a story edit be rejected?

I tried to submit a minor edit for my story, one that corrected a significant error, and it came back as rejected. I followed the directions for submitting the edit closely. Only thing I can think of is that the story title is long enough to leave no room for the 'EDITED' tag, but I did explain this. Help?

If you couldn't put "EDITED" in the title area, but you put "this is a story EDIT" in the notes section? It might also help to clarify, in the Notes, that everything follows the guidlines.

Did the rejection say you can't have two stories with the same title?

Without the text of the rejection notice, there's little anyone can say about the situation.

For future reference, whenever a title is too long to append an "Edited" notation to it, instead of omitting it, truncate the original title instead, leaving sufficient room for an edit notation.

This is my too long title that lea*EDIT

Then use the moderator notes section to clarify which story you're editing. Including the part at the end of the URL representing the title of your story ( with the dashes ) is the best way to do this, as it's unique for every submission on the site.

I'd like to know why isn't there any way to edit a PM, but you can edit a post?

Because when you send a PM it's sent to the other person, like when you send an email.

If you mean, why can't you edit comments - that's the way the comment system works. Get it right before you post, I guess.

What was the reason given in the rejection notice?

I think it sucks, that after you send a message you can't edit it. But you can in your post / thread. I've been on other message sites where you can add, or change your message.
