ask others to respect their boundaries whilst, at the same time, spam another member's inbox with their pathetic vitriol and repetitive, poorly punctuated, spelled, and phrased dribblings like some incontinent leper-whore?

just being sociable, dya think?

it's the bad spelling that rankles. i mean, really ... Hey old fagot. how sad is that?

you never know, perhaps my li'l stalker will get better at writing poetry if they keep at it long enough.

People are arseholes Chip. :heart:I can't figure out why anyone bothers doin this kind of shit to anyone. And doesn't it just piss you off when they can't be bothered spelling shit properly? Does prove they're idiots though. I get the shits with being called fat. it's such a fucking obvious point of attack. I'd like to hear something original....:

lol - it's just so insulting, v :D you simply can't get the same sort of quality troll that you once could. i don't normally even open them, they're so unoriginal as to make watching paint dry appear riveting by comparison. still, i suppose me being their raison d'etre (sorry about the missing accent) is the only reason they bother carrying getting up in the morning. if they do. get up in the morning, if you get me :p

Doubtful.

People like this defy the laws of physics. They are able to generate enough bile it boils over and splashes other people, but nothing every penetrates their shell.

It's a one way transaction. They can't be helped and they can't be hurt. Any response is a waste of time and energy.

becuz there cork soaking ice holez, I cant stands them eediuts neether. dum wads hoo dunno a spell chekker if it dun bitted them in there buts :mad::mad:

Can that one (or they) be put on ignore list? I've never used that so ...

PMs can be blocked I think, e-mail varies according to server.

Chip, is this person using a pseudonym? - E-mails and Private Messages can't leave with out the senders name attached.

I think some strange folk have a thing about "power" and you, as a moderator, might be seen by this idiot as powerful. Your idea of just not opening them seems the best idea, not getting any response from you will soon take the fun out of it for him/her. I expect this thread is giving him/her a frisson of perverted pleasure.

The folk on this forum are behind you so hang in there. :rose:

Being a moderator is hard because you can't really ignore people, not officially. You have to be open to the idea that anyone might need your assistance. That means you get dragged into conflicts that really have nothing to do with you and you get people trolling you and making (sometimes) impossible demands and getting pissed when you can't help because you have a life, too, or won't get involved because it's petty or whatever that has nothing to do with Lit or poetry.

Chip is doing that hard job and making it look easy AND writing really good poems, besides. It takes someone special to carry that off, but I've already figured out she's a special one. We're lucky to have her at the helm. That's what I think.

Of course Lauren just tells trolls to fuck off and in these cases I think her advice is best. :D

i agree. i have always had a soft spot for Chip. She definitely has the 'grace under pressure' down pat and she is always polite and reasonable even in the face of blinding stupidity. Telling trolls to fuck off is what I tend to do most of the time when I just can't ignore em to death...

well on the lighter side
you could put line breaks in them
and submit them as an alt

Just give me a head's up if you do, I'll rave it in NPR

then when they complain that your alt stole their material; gotcha

Don't take this crap seriously.

That would be a hoot and a good way to mock the useless time wasters.

ê << hands you and e with a hat (circonflex) .. character map ..;)
why thankee, sai :D
yeah, i could have gone and looked in my stuff for it but was too sleepy :D

Oh, I don't know, perhaps they are likening you to an old bundle of sticks, like you're quite a torch, or really hot or something.
now there might have been hope if that had been their intention... hope for their spelling, that is. unfortunately the rest of the stuff belies that whiff of possibility.

you lot make the job pretty easy at the moment - not had any huge dramas as yet to deal with, lol. and no, i never take dimwit trolls threatening there's a gang out there waiting to shoot me seriously. too stoopid for words. i think we need a duncehat smilie for these twits.

anyway, this one keeps addressing me as some guy called david  they're supposedly female. but as i said before, who knows? they're running silent atm.

I have seen a lot of forums in the past 10 years or so. Every forum has its trolls, but poetry trolls are the saddest of all.

ah, the visuals of this... cold, grey, lonely, under a bridge, fat salt tears running down its face, a heart heavy with emptiness ... i'm overthinking this, yes? :cattail:

No, you are on target. It is a good metaphor for the internals of a poetry troll.

The old saying, "What you do when no one is watching is who you are," is valid in the face to face world and on the internet. It's easier to imagine no one is watching when we are online. After all, unless someone is looking over your shoulder, there is no way for anyone to connect you to your online actions.

So, what is the motivation for people who seem to have no purpose but to irritate others?

My guess is it's much the same as five year olds who think it's funny to ring door bells and run away. It gives them a feeling of power just to see someone react to them. Beyond that, it's jealousy and envy. If their work were heralded here as the greatest thing since Homer, there would no trollish behavior.
