Why we picked the names we use.....

*poking Rosie*

Hey, you were supposed to agree with me WITHOUT laughing! Now gimme my five bucks back!

don't know, but I had a block at the time. Its sort of a variation of my hotmail address, but I'm not that funny so I don't know why I picked it. Probably its funny -- just me being at this site.

I picked my name because that is what my grandfather used to call me. He was scottish. So I went with it. But if I would have meet Isabella first I would have picked Sweet Little Beaver.

Why Monaco?

Favorite character from Walter Dean Myers' novel "Fallen Angels". Best book I ever read (Ok. I was 12, but it really got to me. I had to read over some passages a dozen times before I could read on - that's how taken I was by the action, the tragedy of what was taking place).

The setting for the story was Vietnam, right in the thick of things, circa 1968. Monaco was the quiet soldier. Slim built, but by no means weak, he had one of the sharpest eyes and concentration around. Reserved, calm but reliable as hell, you could walk a little more easily when he was on point, no matter how deep you went into Vietcong territory.

I bonded with what he represented: how the discreet and sometimes overlooked could sometimes be the most treasured, given the right circumstances. His coming of age came in a place and time worse than our darkest nightmares. And yet, he stood his ground and saved the platoon on more than one occasion. Respect.

Also, the DeVinci Monaco is my ride (I'm a cyclist).
Finally... I'm sorry to say, my real handle is a known alias which would lead back to who I really am and, well, I can't afford for the world to know about my sexual deviancy.

And seeing as I'm french, and "aime" (pronounced "M") is french for "love", it's all the better - this way I get to sign off with the command: "[now go and] love". Hey, I like being bossy about such things. Oh, and did I mention: I specialize in monster posts that never end? (I'll try to cut down on that, I promise)

i've been called Doc since i was about 13 or 14. i just seemed to have the answers my friends needed. then there was the whole Dr.Demento connection. now, so many years later, i am a Doc. not a medical one, though.
gt signifies my professional radio name, and vt stands for my home, in the beautiful green mountains of vermont.

okay , i know this is probably considered an ancient thread but anywho.....Adoratrice is a very loosly translated word for "Female adorer"....the closest thing I could think of for "adorer of females", woman lover, chick magnet you get the idea

ShyGuy....

You have an amazing memory. Until I checked back, I didn't recall that I authored a similar thread. I guess that confirms my diagnosis of CRS (can't remember shit).

Names & Faces... Games & Places... forgotten all are they.

My profession and my real name
Are hidden within the first nick
Of my handle here

And my hero square
With his bold TV stare
Is but one
With whom I have worked with
Yet he's getting older now

And I haven't seen him in a while
Let's see - at least it's been a year

My name comes from "The Wheel of Time" series by (In reverned tones) Robert Jordan. Moridin is one of the most intriging villans I've ever read about. He's evil and has just that touch of insanity that makes him *special*. I don't relate to him in any way, I just think he's cool. ;*)
Although I have a good imitation picture of him. <grin> If you wanna check it out go to

http://www.geocities.com/moridin_elan/index.html

There ya go.

lack of typing ability and imagination. went to type my real name, missed a few keys, and changed it into Tess. That, and I was doing a mandatory rereading of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and it some how seemed appropriate at the time.

I have been avoiding this thread. I am so embarassed *blush*

Does that make you accept it any better??? :D

LMAO. Yeah, Nik, it helps hearing you scream it out - better than "Schookens" anyway *smiles at you*

It's what my family called me when I was little and it's kinda nice to think of people calling me it again. Plus seems vaguely erotic in a french way.

I collect them.

I'm only kidding. My husband's called me Kitten from day one. Kitten Ears was silly and anything from the other end is yucky.

My nickname comes from one of my other hobbies. The name I use on other boards is very distinctive, but wanted something different for this board. Not very creative, maybe if I ever make guru, I will come up with a good title. To morgainefairy, I love "The Mists of Avalon." Have you read the other 2 books in that series, they are excellent.

Ian is my name. My father and I share the same first name and since we look so much alike I have always been called by my middle name, Ian. So I guess I lack imagination or I am not afraid to show my face or a thousand other bullshit psycho-anyalisis reason why I chose to use my name.

Do you know I've never had a nick name, perhaps I should start another thread asking you lot to give me one, a nick name that is.LOL

Carl.
