There have been some headline stories expressing outrage because some high-profile prisoners have been vaccinated,

But why not? Prisons have been shown to be ideal places to spread Covid. A number of people in a confined space with inadequate ventilation is an ideal place to spread covid. Prisoners have been sentenced, but not sentenced to death, for their crimes. The prisoners (And the prison staff) should be a high priority class because the risks for them are much higher than the general population.

OK, some prisoners should be hated for the crimes, but that shouldn't mean they should be at risk of catching covid and spreading it to lower risk prisoners and the staff.

We have many folks here of a particular political persuasion who think criminals should not be treated humanly...many of them would rather have "criminals" lives snuffed out by Knee to the Neck than actually making it to a prison.

Also, the Racism components compounds this...prisons are full of black men.

you mean CRIMINALS

It is our plan to lock up all Republicans...so they can increase their chance of getting sick, even though they do a pretty good job by themselves. We are also going to give out 2 bars of soap instead of one

Edit...self edit correction

I understand what he is saying, but here's the thing: In this state, there are many 80 year olds in the high risk category who want to get vaccinated and they cannot. The reason: Vaccine doses around here are scarce, and they are coveted like Willy Wonka's golden tickets.

And yet, you have much younger people, who in many cases have committed violent crimes, and are undeniably bad people, and yet they can get vaccinated, while many 75+ year old veterans, who have served their country and lived good lives doing the right thing- cannot.

I am not okay with this, and while I understand the argument about need to control the spread, these people are in prison locked up, not outside in the public spreading it.

Save the doses for those who are most in need and most deserving.

When the government incarcerates people, the government takes on responsibility for their physical care. They aren't given the power to do this themselves. Vaccinating them in a pandemonium is a responsibility the government has taken on.

They should take the same responsibility toward the rest of the citizens then. Convicted criminals should not have easier access to life saving and pandemic ending vaccines than law abiding citizens, particularly the ones who are most vulnerable to serious illness and complications. That's all I'm saying. An elderly patient shouldn't have to commit a crime to go get vaccinated, neither should a school teacher, critical infrastructure worker, veteran (ACTUAL Veteran, not stolen-valor Literotica troll posters), etc.

Yes. That doesn't absolve them of the responsibilities to those they are imprisoning and denying the capability of handling their own affairs, though.

The media complaints are in the UK where more than 12 million people have already had their first vaccine and all over 70s are likely to have been offered their jab by this weekend.

I understand that feelings would be different in the US where the vaccine availability is less.
